Many Black&Decker power tool manuals are available from their http://servicenet.blackanddecker.com/Home support site. If you search for the 7420 model number, the correct sander is the first one in the resulting list. The direct link to the 7420 sander page is http://servicenet.blackanddecker.com/Products/Detail/7420# . The link to the manual is on the right hand side of the page near the top. That is scripted link; the actual URL for the manual appears to be http://documents.dewalt.com/documents/English/Instruction%20Manual/592750-01,7420.pdf . However, that may change in the future.
I hope this helps.

At both ends of the bottom pad, there are metal fittings that have a rectangular hole in the middle of them. Take a regular head screwdriver and put the tip in the hole and carefully but firmly lift up and hold while at the same time pushing the narrow edge of the 1/3 sheet sandpaper up under the metal piece which kind of looks like a C on its edge. Then let down the metal piece with the screwdriver and that edge of the sand paper should be held in place. Do the same thing for the other end of the sandpaper, making sure to pull the sandpaper sheet tight against the rubber pad.

Hello, W/D here.
Most sanding disc types are available at the larger box hardware stores. They are (sometimes) generic or exact replacements.
I use the "Gator" brand on my B7D sander, and the discs work just fine.
Best regards, --W/D--

could have had a bearing problem that caused the motor to cease up, It might be time for a new one unless you are handy, if so I suggest going to dewaltservicenet.com and downloading a breakdown for the tool and make note of how you disassemble it to find the problem, If it is the armature or field it might cost less to replace it.
