Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II GSW9650LW Top Load Washer

How can i clean my washer...it has a very strong odor

I'm not sure if I have the correct model or not. It says it is commercial grade. My son works with animals and cleans stalls and takes care of horses. My washer starts smelling awful every summer when he comes home. I need to know how to clean the washer and keep it clean safely.

I've tried a half gallon of bleach in the hot wash cycle. Also tried CLR in hot wash cycle. It's not working. Is there a filter in the Whirlpool Ultimate Care II that needs replaced?

The only other thing to do is get a flash light and look around the top under the rim and see if any mold is higher than the water level. If it is, use bleach to clean that area. There is no filter.

Put one cup of bleach in it with no clothes and set that water temp to high and the water level to max. Run it.

I've done that. I've also tried other cleaners and more than one cup of bleach with hot water cycle. It's not working. Is there a filter in the Whirlpool Ultimate Care II that needs replaced?

No household units use ammonia as a coolant. IF it did and it leaked, you would know it immediately. If the unit still works, there is no issue with the Freon that is in it. The odor could be a sealant that was used to make the interior of unit. You did not say how old it is. Freon can have an odor to it but the unit would stop working correctly pretty fast.

Two tips:
1. There is "washer cleaning" stuff at the market. Comes in packets. Run the washer empty with just the cleaning stuff in it.

2. When you're not using the washer, leave the door open.

Follow both these, and the smell will be under control.

Improper air to fuel mixture, way to rich.
Does this heater have the ability to adjust ratio?
if so, play with adjustment until odor goes away.

How do I remove odor from duet front load washer?

Assuming the odor is not a burning rubber smell or some other type of odor caused by a mechanical malfunction:

Remove the bottom of the washer (three screws I believe and above the drawer if you have one) and then open up the drain pump catch and clean it. You may want to put down some towels or even a bowl to catch water that will spill out. There are videos on how to clean this on youtube "Whirlpool Duet Water Pump Drain Catch". I believe this will solve the problem.

Fowl odor in front loader

Clean out the small holes in the gray door gasket (at the bottom) to allow water to drain back into tub. Open access door at bottom left on front of machine, use small hose to drain remaining water from machine, remove and clean out filter there. Re-install. Run washer on the tub clean cycle if you have that cycle, or if not, use the longest, hottest cycle you can, but make sure to use a commercial washer cleaner like Affresh, Washer Magic, Whirlaway hot tub cleaner, etc., with no clothes in the washer. After cleaning tub, make sure you only use one tablespoon of HE detergent per cycle, and only one teaspoon of fabric softener per cycle if you use softener.

Strong odor coming from dryer

Usually when there is a strong heat (burn) smell from the heat element, it is telling you that there is poor air flow. This has nothing to do with the model. It is a blocked or restricted vent line, or an internal blower wheel malfunction or a lint blockage further in the machine that is restricting the air flow. WHEN AIR MOVES CORRECTLY, THE ELEMENT HEATS NORMALLY AND DOES NOT GIVE ANY OVERHEAT ODER.

You don't specify what model, however most craftsman products are "homeowner" grade manufactured by american yard products. If your going to do a lot of commercial work spend the extra dough and get a good one with a commercial grade engine and a good warranty

Duet washer has a strong odor when draining

you might be getting "sewer gases" from your drain, but most likely your washer is the cause of the odors.
does it also smell musty when you get your clothes out?
whirlpool makes a product called "affresh" that is specially designed to clean out the residues from a front load washer.
you can find them at sears or lowes and the come in a package of 3 tablets. run a tablet on the clean cycle or on whitest whites or the longest cycle you can choose, use hot water and a second rinse option.
also to prevent this odor in the future make sure you are using only HE type soap and dont use too much. the least amount should do well to clean any clothes.

Depending on how old it is, you should just be able to repair the unit if you have the will-to-do. The smell more than likely is coming from a possible mildew growth inside the machine. Sometimes you can remove the inner basket and clean the inner and outer baskets. If you can find the leak (which on older models shouldn't be to hard to do), you should be able to correct pretty easy. Be sure to check hose coming off water mixing valve and the smaller tube for the water level switch (will run off of outer basket up to console). Be sure that hose doesnt come off because washer will keep on filling (and it will to). If you get leak stopped, try getting some strong bleach, and washing a "no-load" a couple of times at high level in hot water. This may get rid of the problem. Jim
