Screen says new voice mail. callers go directly to voice mail
This is a shot in the dark without knowing more details, but have you checked to see if the Do Not Disturb setting was accidentally turned on?
If you have an iPhone, go to: Settings + Do Not Disturb
If you have Android (depending on the phone) check Settings + Sound & Notification + Interruptions
Let me know if none of this works and what kind of phone you have

Called GE. Here's what's happening (at least with my phone). I use VONAGE as a carrier. VONAGE's package includes voicemail. I have my VONAGE voicemail account set up to take any call that comes in if the answering machine on my GE phone does not pick up -- for instance if I'm on the phone and I do not "flash" over to the incoming call, that caller will eventually be sent to my VONAGE voicemail where they can leave a message. (Otherwise I would either take the call, or, if not already in use, the GE phone/answering system would simpy take the message.) This GE phone is commucating with my VONAGE account and letting me know that I have a mesage in my VONAGE account voicemail. All I have to do is either go online and delete the messages (after listening to them of course) and refresh the page. Once the messsages are deleted, the carrier lets my phone know the messages are gone and the NEW VOICE MAIL prompt on the handset disappears. I suppose I can do it by listening to the messages by calling in and deleting through the touch pad on the phone as well.

I dialed my own phone number and that accessed my voice mail.

Hi, I have the same problem. I called the service provider, they left a voice message, which I accessed later and deleted from my voicemail box. This took care of it and I dont have that message on the screen now. I think you can just leave yourself a voice message and access it later and delete it. That should resolve it.

try dialing 600 to clear call forwarding, then re-set your forwarding to busy/ no answer followed by the VM number.
I have uploaded a 'how to' video, more of these are at http://www.abbeytelecom.com
I hope this helps.
