2002 altima 3.5 rear main seal leaking very bad, do i remove tranny or engine to get to seal area ? i have a 4 post lift, but no 2 post

Any vehicle with a rear main seal leaking, you must remove the transmission if the seal is one piece, goes in from the back. you'll need remove the flywheel/flex-plate to change the seal. Older versions you had to drop the oil pan and the rear main cap to replace a 2 piece seal. Take everything off the top of the trans to access the top mounting bolts and remove them. Support the engine and remove the trans mount. Pull the cover off the torque converter and remove the flex-plate to torque converter bolts then remove the rest of the trans bolts at bell housing and pull the trans out. You can use a transmission jack or like I do, just set the trans on top of a metal case on top of a barrel so you don't have to drop it all the way out. Just slide it out far enough to change the seal and put it back together.

How do you replace rear oil seal in 1994 Isuzu Standard tranmission

Chockblock front wheels to prevent truck rolling, and jack vehicle up and place a jackstand under frame to prevent vehicle falling. Remove driveshaft, seal is now visible to be pried out for new one to be lightly tapped into place with a rubber mallet or hammer, along with a wooden block, taking care to keep new seal straight while replacing. replace driveshaft and check fluid level, lower vehicle and remove chockblocks.

How to replace a rear main seal in a 2001 chevy 2500

several things, the rear main seal is accessable by removing the transmission. if this vehicle is standard transmission, then would recomend new clutch at this time given the amount of labor involved. if automatic, remove drive shafts, transfer case, transmission, and flexplate ....replace rear main. approx 5 hrs.

The Dodge Dealer is saying the crank seal and cam seal are leaking when they went to change the oil, are these transmission seals or engine seals? do I need to place them or is there a product that will...

Crank seal could either be at the front or rear of the engine (there are two) Cam seal is at the front of the cylinder head. If the leaks are minor, a good product that may help is lucas conditioner and sealer. Larger leaks require an actual seal replacement. No sealer will work immediately. The reason most leak is because over time the seal hardens from heat. It takes a while to soften it up again.
If the leak is from the rear main seal, the transmission needs to be removed to get to it but neither seal is part of the transmission.

I have 1994 bluebird nissan altima with oil leak in transmission side. What posssible causes of it?

The Rear Main Seal is the main area for an Oil Leak on the Transmission Side. You will need to drop the transmission to remove the old rear main seal and install the new one.

Need to find a way to put in a rear main seal in my 1989 jeep cherokee 4.0 without pulling the transmission

The Rear main seal on a Cherokee with the 4.0L is a 2-piece seal and the transmission doesn't have to be pulled. You have to remove the oil pan and rear main cap. That's it. The transmission doesn't have to be removed. Hope this helps.

Best of luck

97 neon oil leak

Solution: Maybe.

Rear main seal is probably the problem.

My 1997 Dodge Neon has this same problem. My father-in-law (who used to be a mechanic) checked the car for me and found the rear main seal needs replacing.

Main seal

First is it a front seal ,or rear main seal,(front seal, being were you see the pulleys and fan belts,,you have to look at the bottom pulley, follow the shaft to the motor, where the shaft goes into the motor is the front seal, the pulley and everthing behind it has to come out then you pull out the seal, auto zone actually has free tool rental that you can pull the seal, and a tool to put it back in,if a rear main seal its where the shaft from the transmission meets the back of the motor, youll have to pull the trannsmission back, check where you see the oil leek from, the front seal you can do if mechanically inclined, but if its the rear you should take to a mechanic,if this helps please give me a fix ya vote
