Fuel injector working principle
The injector atomizes the diesel fuel and sprays it into the combustion chamber. The injector consists mainly of the nozzle and nozzle holder.
Possible causes of fuel injector pump faults:
A little or no fuel injected.
(1) There is air in the fuel supply system.
(2) Seizure of the fuel injector nozzle.
(3) Abnormal fuel supply from the fuel injection pump.
(4) Oil leak at high-pressure fuel pipes.
(5) Wear of fuel injector nozzles.
Too low fuel injection pressure.
(1) Lose pressure regulating screw.
(2) Deformation or break of the pressure regulating spring.
(3) Seizure of needle valves.
Too high fuel injection pressure.
(1) Pressure regulating spring force too high.
(2) Seizure of needle valves.
(3) Block of the injection holes.
Fuel leak at fuel injector.
(1) Break of pressure regulating springs.
(2) Damage of needle valve facing.
(3) Seizure of needle valves.
(4) Deformation of tightening cap.
(5) Poor contact between nozzle and injector body.
Poor fuel atomization
(1) decay of pressure regulating spring force or break of springs.
(2) Wear of fuel injector nozzle seat surface.
(3) There is impurity on the fitting plane of fuel injector nozzle assembly.
(4) Deformation or wear of nozzle assembly.
(5) Seizure of needle valve.

Diesel mixed with engine oil increasing level of engine oil

Usually if outside o rings fail the its often soon after the inside rings and seals go to. injector pump overhaul the solution. You could just remove the pump and replace the front seal but it would only be a short term fix as the bushings in pump are likly worn

I have a audi a3 2000 w reg 1.9tdi the problem is its hard to start in the morning when i get it started it runs perfect then if i try to start it hot the problem is the same takes a few goes to fire up ....

i think the problem is the injector pump ,this isnt common rail as yet for this age vehicle and when its starting its not throwing the auto start mechanism into play which makes it over inject fuel ,remember the old transit with the inline injector pump, lift bonnet pull throttle and push button in ,then it would go first time .well its the smae thing buts done electricaly ,only solution is to put car into a bosch injection specialist and have the pump overhauled ,lots of cash though,or use a can of brake and clutch cleaner --- and thin pipe into teh air intake and spray some of the cleaner into the air intake ,brake and clutch isnt as harsh as easy start andf their is a nozzle on the can so the pipe pushes onto that ,just like the old perkins diesels in the transits in the 60s only it was a plunger on the dash in them days .

Fuel Pump

You might not have to change the pump at all. Get the fuel filter cleaned thoroughly, change it if required(its quite reasonably priced) and since this has MPFI (multi-point fuel injection) engine, either clean it by adding some nozzle clearing fluid or get the nozzles properly cleaned at a authorized service station, where they can connect it to a PC to check the status of the tiny holes of the injector nozzle.............................sodeep

Wont start when hot!

hello there, wow my dream p-up. nissan pathfinder 4x4,  unfortunately i have to settle with my nissan navara truck. anyways, the possible problems would be the injectors and injection pump. injectors are really direct on the combustion chamber so everytime the engine runs it is severely exposed to very high temperatures. the nozzle tips are the ones very much abused. the injectors have 2 seals. the first one which hugs the body of the injectors which is usually made of hard copper and the 2nd is called the chamber washer which is a stainless steel type concaved washer which serves as the nozzle tip seal and heat nozzle tip heat dispenser. if the nozzle tip floats there is a tendency that the tips are flame red due to heat thus, diesel is boiling to the point of turning to vapors enough to push the remaining fuel back to the injection pump when you shut the engine. then the one way valves of the injection pump comes into play. the valves might be weak and due to the high pressure, fuel slowly creeps back into the pump body. hope this helps.
