Lost over 2 gallons of fuel spread all over garage floor 2 days ago. Can't tell from where in the fuel system it came from. Called emergency Fire Dept. to protect home in case of flash fire. They used "Clay based "Floor Dry" to help evaporate liquid fuel. "No fire" strong fumes, had to throw out a refrigerator and freezer contents, because fridge, draws outside air for effective circulation during cycle. This should have never happened.
Never heard of refrig working this way; all that know are closed systems that a person inside will suffocate.. What brand and model?
Testimonial: "My concern is not pointed to the "Hotpoint" side by side, refrigerator, I simply mentioned it to stress a point of the overall loss we've incurred because the failure of the Yamaha generator (Inverter) actually. The adjoining rooms in an near the home's garage entry door now smell of gasoline, the second auto in the garage, will need to be treated to eliminate the odor. Shelving with wooden legs and column (floor supported) because of wicking action are saturated with the gasoline. The garage's security is compromised during this airing out and fuel evaporation process. Rubberized backed carpeted garage floor mats were damaged beyond further usage, the fuel attacked rumpled the rubber of those mats. In time, all of this will pass, and I understand that, however the manufacture Yamaha, could-of and should-of foreseen the potential problem of fuel leakage, and simply have attached a warning label in or near the fuel shutoff knob/valve. To be frank, Yamaha owners manual (page 22) advises turning off the fuel when not in use. However owners manuals tend to be "out-a sight, out-a mind" once tucked away in the filling cabinet. If there was any possibility of a fuel system leak, and if simply turning off the shut-off valve would have spared me this time costly event, then I'd push for stiff regulations on any and gasoline, gravity fed, tools and equipment, with fuel tanks holding more than 2 to 4 ounces, that any all inclusive greater than the 4 oz, be affixed with a non removable label stating the, Danger, and turn fuel shutoff valve to the "Off Position", after each use, to avoid serious un-attended injuries, fire and risk of death. We were lucky, I was home and avoided loosing our belongings and home. And as it turns out, when I reported this failure to Yamaha, I was advised that my comments will be forwarded to key people within Yamaha Motors Corp. And I have great confidence in this quality organization will respond in a irreversible corrective actions, to eliminate this problem on their products."
