Blackout tv screens

I am getting frequent tv picture blackouts with my Bell Expressu system. The backouts last only a few seconds, the picture goes black and the screen only shows my tv input selection(HDMI)

Has anyone figured out the solution to this?  I have the same issue with my Sharp 52D62U.  Very frustrating.  It periodically, for no reason whatsoever, will go black for a few seconds, and the HDMI Input selector will appear at the top right before it comes back on.  I'm far from an expert on this matter...so any suggestions?

I have the same exact issue...Sharp LCD 52".  Purchased just this year.  It was working for several months, and then all of a sudden this problem started just a few months ago out of nowhere.  Sporadically the screen goes blank for 2-5 seconds, with the HDMI indicator showing on the top right.  There's no pattern or consistency as to when it will happen.  It's very frustrating!  Anyone have a resolution??

SOURCE: Periodic tv screen blackouts

The problem is your cable box. I know you said you replaced it, but I work on TV's everyday and, sorry to say this but cable box HDMI outputs have serious issues, like no or intermittent sound and video. I have seen customers exchange their cable boxes 5 and 6 times and still have the problem. Your best bet is to use the component outputs of your cable box, visually you will not see a picture difference between component and HDMI when using a cable box. Your other solution is to get satellite; I have NEVER seen an HDMI issue with a satellite box

SOURCE: Screen blackout

I had the same problem and fixed it with a new backlight inverter board. It was a pretty easy install. The part is available on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Inverter-for-Dell-W1700-17-inch-LCD-TV_W0QQitemZ400017456720QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

You will most likely need to get the set diagnosed. Sounds like you have a backlight problem. Backlight problems could be cause by a fault in the power supply, main board, inverter board, bad CCFL lamp, or a short in a HV(high voltage) cables. I would say it's worth getting a proper diagnosis. However, if you choose to replace the set, you can get a pretty penny for it on Craigslist. If it is clean and come stand and remote, you could get as much as $100 to the right buyer!

Hello,

The problem is the picture board on your monitor, the picture board on the monitor is malfunction, that is why the screen goes off after few seconds and turn back on.

If the problem is a regular one, i will advice you replace the picture board on your monitor to fix the problem.

Got an alpine cda 9855 the screen keeps goin black but if you touch the button it comes back on it has like a 5 sec delay then it goes black but still plays any help

Blackout Display Mode: When the Blackout mode is activated, the display turns off to reduce power consumption. The additional power made available by turning off the display helps enhance sound quality. If a button is pressed during the Blackout mode, the display will illuminate for 5 seconds before blacking out again. Blackout Mode On and Off (CDA-9855 only) When Blackout mode is turned on, the display will turn off to reduce power consumption. This additional power enhances the sound quality. Press and hold FUNC. for at least 2 seconds to activate the blackout mode. The display will turn off. If any button on the unit is pressed during the blackout mode, the function will be displayed for 5 seconds to show the operation before returning to Blackout mode. To cancel Blackout mode, press and hold FUNC. for at least 2 seconds.
Copied from the alpine user manual..
Hope this helps

SCREEN WON,T STAY LIT UNLESS I TOUCH IT

You are simply in blackout mode. This is so at night you aren't blinded by the glow of a screen. Here are instructions right from the manual to turn on or off.

Blackout Mode On and Off
When Blackout mode is turned on, the monitor display will turn off to
reduce power consumption.
This additional power enhances the sound quality.
1 Touch [VISUAL] on the main source screen.
The VISUAL selection screen is displayed.
2 Touch [OFF].
The backlit-display portion goes out.
3 Touch [OFF] again to cancel the display backlight.
To make the setting, set to “Setting the VISUAL Touch Button” (page
34).
If any button on the unit is pressed during Blackout mode, the
function will be displayed for 5 seconds to show the operation before
returning to Blackout mode.
While the backlighting is turned off, the function indicator
