If the tv does not have a built in hd digital tuner you need a Hd digital converter to analogue converter. What you need to be careful about is the available inputs on the TV if it only has AV in then you need a converter that transmits out RCA video or an analogue tv channel on RF the tv can tune into. Some of the new converters have HDMI out so if TV does not have HDMI input it won't connect. The antenna would go into the converter. Not sure how much signal you need you may need an rf amplifier if the signal is poor in your area.

How do I attach a flat leaf antenna to an older Phillips TV

The old style TV's need a converter box. You cannot just hook up an antenna directly to the TV. The TV signal in the air is now digital. Your old style TV has an analogue TV station tuner. The converter box transforms the digital signal into a usable analogue signal. Just do a online search to find out any information that you need.

I have an older Sharp Aquos TV - model # LC-32G4U. I am trying to connect a digital antenna but it doesn't work. Anyone know if I need a separate digital tuner for this TV? Or what else might be t

There is no difference between a "digital" and analog antenna. Either antenna will capture the signal. What you need is a digital converter box to convert the over air digital signal to the older analog type signal your TV needs. You connect the antenna to the digital converter box, and the digital converter box to the TV.
Several years ago, the US government forced peopel to buy digital converter boxes or newer TVs that could pick up the digital signal. Either get a digital converter box or a new TV.

How do I get the free digital channels on my tv?

One way you can get free high quality digital channels is an HD antenna. In recent years, the government stopped broadcasting analog (non-HD) signals, and instead pumped out HD. They advertised their "converter box", that made it possible for people receiving their TV channels from antenna, to get HD.
If you currently have an antenna that you prefer to use, you can buy a converter box here.
But, the solution that in the end will get you more channels is a new HD antenna. They range from extremely powerful roof antenna's, to average tabletop antenna's. A roof antenna has more distance, but can be more hard to set up compared to the tabletop ones.
You can buy a variety of tabletop ones Here
Or, you can choose outdoor Here
You can learn to set it up Here
If your TV doesn't have HD capabilities ("HDTV") than you will need a converter box, which can buy at the link above ( or here.).
Hope this helped!

I bought a toshiba 36HF12 36" tv

The TV does need a converter box to receive digital off-the-air broadcasts. It's an HD set, but that doesn't mean digital; no digital tuner was built in. You can find the manual here at Toshiba. Hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya!

DTV converter box

Buy a hdtv antenna to autoscan program channels which should bring in a lot more then reconnect with the older antenna afterwards and if you're still not getting all the channels then each source needs a strong hdtv antenna that can be adjusted manually.
