You will need to follow these steps:
1. Determine which type of memory your laptop uses (DDR,DDR2,DDR3)
2. Determine how much memory you would like to add
3. Purchase the memory
4. Install. The memory is typically installed in the underside of your laptop. You will have to take the bottom off, take out the old memory, and install the new one

I have toshiba tecra a6-ez6312 on win 7 32 bit. I replaced the user accessible memory slot with a 2GB module. I'm unable to boot - beeps and black screen. Do I need to also add a 2gb memory

Here is the quick manual. Tells all you need to know about memory. Your computer only takes PC 4200 or PC 5300 DDR2 ram. If you mix pc 4200 with pc 5300 it will not work, you can have 1 gig and 512 meg as long as they are the same speed of PC4200 or PC5300. YOu need to check which you have.

How to make Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition see more than 4GB RAM

Issue – After upgrading a server to Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition and adding additional memory, the OS still shows only 4 GB of RAM.

Additional Information – Physical Address Extension (PAE)

In Windows Server 2003, PAE is automatically enabled only if the server is using hot-add memory devices. In this case, you do not have to use the /PAE switch on a system that is configured to use hot-add memory devices. In all other cases, you must use the /PAE switch in the Boot.ini file to take advantage of memory over 4GB.

The newer Dell servers are capable of using hot-add memory devices, but the older servers do not.

If you upgrade an older Dell server and are experiencing the issue above, make the following change to the boot.ini file.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect /PAE

Add the /PAE flag to the end of the boot device. Then reboot the server.

After rebooting the correct amount of memory should be displayed

To summarize, PAE is a function of the Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 memory managers that provides more physical memory to a program that requests memory. The program is not aware that any of the memory that it uses resides in the range greater than 4 GB, just as a program is not aware that the memory it has requested is actually in the page file.

I want to add more memory to my asus u36jc-b2b... currently, i have 4gb.

Hello there,

To add more memory to your asus, all you need to do is to get the additional memory, then you rturn off the laptop and wait for about 10mins, then you unscrew the screws that are around the back and it you will be able to have access to the memory you seek to increase, sometimes,there used to be a space for additional memory, then you fix it there, but if there seem not to be a space,you will have to get the old 4 gb out and replace it with a larger memory. Then you reassemble the laptop back together.

That should do the job for you.

Hope this helped you.

I want to add 4GB of DDR3 memory, what further info to I need to know about the memory?

Newegg has a great site to find the correct and most compatible memory for you Here.
To maximize your ram speed, use the same speed and types of ram

For example, if you have a 1GB right now, add three more 1GB than putting in a 2GB and 1GB.
If you have a 4GB ram stick right now, add another 4GB and not 2x2GB. Also make sure the MHz on the ram is the same, (1333, 1600, 2000)

Enjoy upgrading your computer!

Acer laptop 2310 series, 5yrs old 40 GB HDD; 256 MB DDR.Windows XP. Can i add more memory & if so how much?

Yes you can. You can increase the memory up to 1GB. If you are going to keep the memory inside then you should buy a 512 MB memory card, making your computer run on 768 MB of memory. If not then replace it with a 1 GB memory card. Remember, this computer can only support a maximum of 1GB total memory. The price depends on the memory module. The higher it is, the higher the price will be. Go to your local computer store for the price.

I want to add additional memory of either 1 or 2 gigs. Only have 512. How do I install it?

Hi,
You can find the memory type and specifications for your laptop here:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Business%20Notebook%20nc6220

When you get the memory, it'll come in 1 or 2 little sticks with gold contacts. You'll need to turn off your laptop completely, flip it over and lay it flat on a table. You'll need a small phillips head screwdriver to open the access panel. Your laptop has one or more access panels on the bottom. One of them will have memory modules in it. You'll know when you find it because the sticks are laying flat near the surface. TO remove them, there are two small clips on the sides of the module that hold it in place. If you unclip the module by pressing outward on these clips, the module will "pop up" so you can remove it. Install the new RAM modules by reversing this process and booting the laptop up. Hope this helps!
