You have the SoundDock plugged in, incorrectly! You need to look and find the symbol that is on the plug end and match it with the symbol on the back of sound dock. As time goes by the plug can get a little worn down allowing it to be plugged in, in any orientation, thus causing the knocking sound that you hear. As for not charging, you have a newer iPod that uses USB charging and your Dock is an older model that supports FireWire charging. There are several types of adaptors online to order, try searching for "bose sounddock board upgrade", choose the first site at the top. If your comfortable fixing electronics yourself than this is the place to go, enjoy!

I just bought the ipod nano 6th generation and it will not charge in the Bose docking system....my old one charges with no problem.....is there a fix for this? The nano plays fine it just wont charge

If it is a different model iPod then it is likely the Bose dock does not support the newer model. Quite often changes such as from iPhone 3 to iPhone 4, Bose had to release a new dock. The speakers and music will still always work, but the support will be limited for charging. Unfortunately you will not be able to fix this, other than upgrade the dock, or go back to your old ipod.

On my windows 7 laptop the bose system has a very loud crackling noise, I update the drivers for my soundcard and alsod disabled all sound enhancements, nothing has worked

I have this same problem! My speakers make weird popping sounds and my iPod will never charge when I plug it in. I have no idea what is going on. All of my gear worked just fine when I had Windows XP. I am annoyed that when I upgraded, the problems started to begin. I lay down sod for a part time job, and I usually listen to my iPod while working. I don't have a wall charger yet. Hopefully someone will post an answer soon as there are a lot op people that have this problem.

My fully charged 3g Iphone in the Bose Sounddock it keeps poppin

Try putting your iPhone into "Airplaine" mode. It's possible that the radio frequencies from your phone are interfearing with the speakers in your sound dock.

Does the new bose dock station charge the new ipod touch (32g)?

The new SoundDock II charges your new iPod touch and is fully compatible all iPods and the iPhone 3G. Also the SoundDock Portable will do this. But..
Better news-> Call Bose. They can upgrade the 30-pin connector to charge via USB-only and function with the remote as well. $99. This will make your iPod touch 100% compatible and somewhat future-proof your SoundDock. If the SoundDock was purchased within 90 days (at full retail price), they will do the upgrade for a smaller fee or even free I think.. (new 1 year warranty given with repair/mod) btw- This is an Apple issue, not a Bose issue. All 3rd party iPod connection devices had to make this change at some point.

Bose Ipod docking station not working!

Make sure the power supply is connected properly. If the power supply is connected upside down or sideways, the system will make a thumping noise, or will not play at all. However, no damage will be caused by connecting this wire incorrectly.

Bose docking statoin

They both use the same speakers, my personal opinion deems they are both the same. However the second SoundDock charges via USB pin, so it is future proof for future iPods.
