Are there batteries in the old Viking grills? my ignitors are not working. it doesn't look like there are batteries

That is not really enough to tell us what you need.
We repair a lot of Viking model barbecue grills and stock all the various ignition parts. As Viking changed fabrication strategy the appliances have gotten much better through the years. An electrode purchased today for a Viking will not look the same as the original electrode but the new, longer, double-pronged electrodes work a lot better, are built a lot heavier, last a lot longer and cost less than the originals.
The only difference between the module and electrode and button architecture in a Viking when compared to any other high-end grill is the inner firewall. Between the control panel and the inside firewall inside the grill where the burners connect to the valves, there is a second firewall designed to hold-off heat damage created by certain problems (usually resulting from poor assembly after cleaning). The new Viking electrodes are long and thick but the back-end is also long which makes sure the electrode wires are far away from the heat of the firebox.
Other than that the 9volt module, button and electrodes are no different from any other high-end grill.
We do have exploded schematics of where all the grill parts belong in a Viking so contact us if you want copies of this information.

Mike, have you replaced the battery in the igniter button ye? That's the first place to start troubleshooting. Be sure you install the new battery facing the same direction as the old battery. Also, check the interior contacts of the battery holder for corrosion. If you find any, use a Q-Tip sprayed with a little WD40 to clean it.

If the above doesn't solve the problem, trace the igniter wire from the igniter button to the spark igniter at the burner for damaged wire or a loose connection.

And finally, try match lighting the infrared burners to make sure that they are getting an adequate flow of gas.

If the grill has a NG regulator, try replacing it.

First, Bud make sure the battery was installed facing the proper direction. The Positive end (+) should be facing out when installed. If that's not the problem, check the wiring from the ignition module to the each burner ignitor. One may be loose or the grounding wire from the ignitor module to the grill's frame, may have lost contact. Also, look carefully at each ignitor tip at the burners. They may have an accumulation of grease, which needs to cleaned off.

If all that doesn't resolve the problem, you will need to replace the ignitor module. You can purchase one online directly from NEX Grill http://www.nexgrill.net/ or from Factory Appliance Parts

Jennifer, it fairly easy to do. Unscrew the Ignitor Button cap and you will see the old battery behind it. Take note which end of the battery is facing you. As, that's the way you want to install the new battery.

While old battery is out, check the contacts in the battery holder for signs of corrosion. If you see any, a Q-Tip and WD40 work well to remove it.

Replace the battery in the ignitor and it should fire up. If not, replace the ignitor

The Viking manual says that an ignitor that continues to try to light even after the burner has been lit indicates improper grounding, and that an electrician should be consulted.

Perhaps you could try to replace the ignitor, and see if that fixes the problem?

I have a similar age, 6-burner 36" rangetop.
