Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV87 Camcorder
I opened it to look into a issue with the tape not playing. I did not find anything off, but upon reassembly, although the tape plays now, the actual camera recording mode will not turn on at all. As if there is no power. I do this with a battery and so far upon double checking for loose or missing connection I have found nothing that I see. I a clueless at this point. Thanks

Fixed it, at least temporarily I had the side off my trv250 examining it, especially the CCD connection. I had read the post about soldering a capacitor to pins 1 and 3 (from the left) on the bottom row. I didn't have the specific capacitor on hand, but I started touching some of the small ones I did have to those pins. I found that after I touched a 100uF, 10V cap to pins 1 and 3 the picture suddenly came back to life and stayed that way after removing the cap. I have no idea how long this will last, and I've set up the cam on a tripod in the livingroom with the LCD display facing me so I can monitor it. If you, like me, figure you have nothing else to lose, you might want to give this a try. Note: my camera was suffering from the green smeary horizontal lines problem, and wasn't completely black. I'm not sure if this makes a difference or not.

All of a sudden no picture appears on the screen when recording or playing back. It will play old tapes that have been recorded, but won't record any new pictures, just sound. Did I press something? It worked a month ago and hasn't been used since.

The tape is locked by a pin on the cornerside, check the locking hole on tap.

SOURCE: Sony Camcorder DCR-TVR140 NTSC does not recognize tape in camera
daer
this error C:31:23 is related to the s reel and this occurs only when the tension of the tape is more,
solution:
1 st try to change the tape
if the problem persists then u need to take it to the service center as the tape path of the mechanical section is to be adjusted
as you are telling that your camcorder is not showing remaining time (time code ) then head assy. also need to be cleaned ..try to use cleaning tape for 10 sec. not more then that .

Go to camcorder Menu and enable USB Streaming option.
