There is in beautiful Barcelona, Spain, many surprises to be found. Barcelona, Spain's second-largest city, and Madrid, the country's capital, has a traditional rivalry. At one time, the population of Barcelona were forbidden to speak the city's native tongue, Catalan, by a royal decree from Madrid. Today, however, neither Spanish nor Catalan are discriminated against in the region. One of the sites that belongs on every tour, the outlandish cathedral La Sagrada Familia ("The Sacred Family"), was designed by Antoni Gaudi. Everyone using the word "gaudy" actually has Gaudi's name on his or her tongue. A series of thirteenth- to fifteenth-century palaces now house the Museo Picasso, which display a history of Picasso's work and his many years living in Barcelona. Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, or The Young Ladies of Avignon, are one example of a painting inspired by his time in Barcelona. Whether you prefer cobblestone streets with centuries-old buildings or asphalt streets with modern shops and taverns, each are found in Barcelona. At night, every one of the streets seem to have a festive air, reflecting the vivacity of Spanish culture.
Hi Angela:
I'll post my response in bold

SOURCE: speaking the names of major streets
It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.
SOURCE: WON'T SPEAK STREET NAMES
Greetings Seecar,
I had the same problem with the TomTom One. What you need to do is this:
When you select a voice preference you have to use a "computer" voice as it seems the "human" voice cannot pronounce the street names. I don't know if your model has the same choices but mine is set to "Samantha, English US"
Hope this helps

SOURCE: How do you get GArmin nuvi 265WT to speak street names?
I just purchased similar model (Nuvi 265W) and experiment for sometime. The trick is on the language option with or without TTS.
Select Setting from menu, go to language and pick the Voice option. Select any one of the language with TTS (Text to Speech) and save. Those that without (TTS) will not talk "street name", this is why some cheaper model can't speak street name, only turn-by-turn instruction, like nuvi model 205.
Enjoy
SOURCE: I have a Nuvi 255. It does not speak street names
Did you select Text To Speech (TTS) one? If the voice doesn't have (TTS) it won't speak street names.

Hi,
Below is the procedures for setting the languages...
Touch tools > settings > language > voice.
Voice- changes the language for voice promts.
Languages noted with a persons name are (tts)
text to speak voices.
which have an extensive vocabulary and pronounce
the street names as you approach turns.
The pre-recoreded voices (those without a persons name)
have a limited vocabulary and (do not speak names of locations or streets)
Text language- change all on-screen text to the selected language,
changing the text language does not change the language of user entered data
or map data, such as street names.
Keyboard- select the keyboard for your language,
you can also change the keyboard language mode from any keyboard
by touching the mode button
Adjusting the volume levels
From the "menu" page touch "volume"
to adjust the volume.
To adjust the volume levels for the media player
and the navigation prompts,
please click.
Tools > settings > Volume > Restore
Restore will, restore to origional volume levels.

Richard
