Acer Travelmate 290 laptop beeps all the time

I have an Acer Travelmate 290 laptop. It beeps every 15 seconds when the battery is low. It also beeps every 2 seconds when the AC adaptor is connected. Once it has loaded windows it stops (unless it is in safe mode).

Apart from this it works fine. The problem is that the beeping is driving me nuts.

I don't really want to cut the speaker cable (for the internal speaker) but I don't know what else I can do.

Any ideas?

The beeping happens in safe mode and during boot - it is not a windows settings issue. In fact as mentioned above when windows fully loads the beeping seems to stop.

I discovered that it uses the stereo speakers so if I connect headphones the sound is redirected to those. Not really a solution but it at least stops me going crazy while I look for a better solution.

My Travelmate 290 series is not working...

Try taking the memory out and then put it back in making sure it seated correctly then start using AC power lead it's probably caused by letting the battery get too low before recharging.Use a start up disc to get it going if you have to. Good luck

Beeping

If the system beeped and is a long one, but you did not get it to boot i would suspect that the processor has failed, but if its a short beep and you can get into the bios, check the date and time as if it is incorrect, if so, it may simply be that the cmos battery needs replacing on the motherboard. Beep codes can define allsorts of differnt things, so without knowing the motherboard make, it is hard to pin down to a specific fault so applogies if incorrect.
