Hard drives are formatted in "clusters". A "bad cluster" means that a portion of the disk is not working properly.
If your computer no longer recognizes the drive, then the drive is bad.

I lost power at my house and when the powr came back on my hard drive won't turn back on

how do you know that your hard disk is not turning on? Get the message displayed on the screen when you turn on your desktop first, if it says "boot device failed" or something like that (depends on motherboard model, company and bios version) , check your hard disk is detected or not by bios if not so, open your desktop cup's cover were something made with plastic or rubber on you hand and touch hard disk to see if it is running while pc is on (if running, you will feel something moving inside). If hard disk is detected by bios then it's a case of damaged operating system, just recover or re install operating system. This kind of problem happens for bad sector of hard disk caused by sudden power loss. If hard disk is not detected by bios or running, make sure machine is turned off first, just unplug the power cord of hard disk and plug it back then restart your machine to see if hard disk runs. If not so , go to some repairing shop to check your hard disk.

Media test failure

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Disk boot failure.insert system disk. Message that appear a boot up

first of all check in your BIOS whether your motherboard is detecting your hard drive or not.
If yes try installing window.
If not it means your hard drive is not detected , Open the case and check hard drive data cable is connected properly or not, and hard drive is getting proper power supply.
you can try changing hard drive data cable and power connector from.

If still you are facing the same problem that means your hard drive gone bad.

Hp invent with windows xp pro after restoring to an earlier date says windows cannot start driver corruppted?Did system Diagnostics hard disk test failed test 2 (Comprehensive)...Error: Read Failure

Restoring to an eariler date cannot fix this problem.
If the hard disk diagnostics failed, this could indicate the hard drive is about to fail. The hard disk platter/s most likely has some bad clusters and if any files are located on these bad clusters then you would get a read failure. The number of bad clusters will increase and cause further problems.
Run chkdsk to lock out these bad clusters but this is a temperoary solution and the computer may not be able to relocate the data from the bad sectors to a good sectors.
The fix is to backup your data as soon as possible, then replace the hard drive with a new hard drive and re-install Windows and the Compaq's device drivers.

PXE-E61: MEDIA TEST FAILURE, CHECK CABLE PXE-M0F: exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. Operating system not found. how 2 solve or repair? help me...

The PXE-X61 error means that the laptop cannot detect the hard drive. This can be caused by a faulty disk controller, or a faulty disk drive.
1st. Reseat the hard drive and see if the laptop boots up.

2nd. Go into the BIOS configuration and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.

3rd. If the BIOS can't detect the hard disk, the remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer detects this drive as an external disk drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive, then the hard drive is OK and the fault is in the laptop.

4th. If the hard drive cannot be detected then the hard drive is faulty, you need to replace the faulty hard drive in your laptop and install Windows to get an operating laptop again.
