Fixing a tub faucet reverser

There is usually a rubber gasket inside the spout/spigot - this is called the diverter. This gasket can wear out or crack over time. Sometimes you can fix or clean just the rubber gasket, but most times it is easier and quicker to replace the whole spout/diverter. They are usually screwed on and will have teflon tape to seal the NPT pipe threads. Easy fix.

Rubber seal has come off and cannot get the metal ring back on to tighten the seal back. Any suggestions on how to do this.

You will need to stretch the metal ring a bit. Once stretched make sure to shape in a circle again. Using two screw drivers and two pair of hands pull the metal ring back around the gasket. It is a real pain to do, but can be done. Make sure that the spring is located at the bottom of the rubber gasket. I'm sure that they make a special tool to do this, but this worked for us and washer still works fine.

My steam vac doesn't seem to have suction. Help?

(1) Make sure tank lid is sealed to the tank.
(2) Is the filler panel in place on the front of the recovery tank? (Square shaped plastic panel)
(3) Is the tank gasket in place under the hood? There must be a rubber gasket on the round pipe that the recovery tank seals to when it sets down in to the cleaner foot. This connects the vacuum path to the tank.

Rubber gasket

Hi,

Feel around the seal, in the groove behind the seal face. You'll find a spring at the bottom. With a small screwdriver, lever the spring over the seal face. Work the steel ring off. Fold the seal inside the washer. Unplug the washer, Remove the door, and set aside. Locate your panel screws and remove the front, exposing the drum and basket. There are usually additional screws under the dispenser trays too. Disconnect the door lock wires. Locate the other spring/ring assembly on the outer drum, and remove. Orient your new seal properly and reassemble. The only difference on the reassembly is that, when you are putting the rings back on, start 180 degrees from the spring, and work the ring back on until you get to the spring. Carefully lever the spring back over the seal face, being careful not to damage your new seal.

I ALWAYS DETECT GAS FUMES IN MY 1992 MIATA.

Remove the center consule. Underneath the leather boot around the shifter lever is a rubber boot sealing the shifter lever to the tunnel. This prevents road dust, water, and fumes, etc. from entering the cockpit. Under this rubber boot is another rubber boot sealing the shifter lever to the transmission. It is possible one or both rubber boots are ruptured. Should replace both anyway, if one is. I assume you have a manual transmission.
