DVD player - ERR

All of a sudden, no matter what disc is put in - The TV will show the Toshiba DVD welcome screen but there is a black box in the upper left hand area of the screen that says "Incorrect Disc"..
Even when the disc is a "store bought" - play anywhere - type of disc.
It will not even play the discs that were recorded and finalized on the unit.
Can you help??

ive had three dvd players in 2 years and always encounter this problem ie.ERR and so cant play discs really frustrating

My Toshiba is doing the same thing, it errors out saying "Incorrect Disc". It sounds like the rotating devise that makes the CD or DVD spin is not working. I thought it was a dirty lens inside, but after putting a disc in, the disc did not move.

Is this worth fixing or replacing?

I have exactly the same problem, even when putting in the cleaner disc. Even after having watched a DVD with no problem, I am now getting the incorrect disc error or bad disc .

I have the same problem. All of a sudden the ERR appeared. Has anyone had any luck in fixing this? or did you just go buy a new player?

Black screen ask for password

Black screen with "Enter Password" in blue box. - BIOS password.
To reset: take the CMOS battery out then place it back again.

Black screen with Enter password in the upper right left corner - could be hard disc password.,
If you set up the password before, you can only bypass that by entering the correct password. If not, it will render the hard disc useless.

There is a large black area in the upper left hand corner of the screen

If it is a square box, it is usually a text box. It can be fixed by turning closed captioning off. Either hit the CC button on the remote until off appears. Or go in to the menu find closed captioning or text and turn off. If it is not a defined box, it could be something inside the tv.

Big black box across the screen towards the bottom.

In some TV's closed captioning can cause this problem. turn off CC and see if that helps.

Not booting up

Unfortunately you Windows OS crashed. Try pressing the F8 once you boot up. It should lead you to an option screen where you will be choosing SAFE MODE only. If you can boot up to windows under safemode you can do system restore or uninstall the program you just installed.

If you can't go into safe mode. Use the recovery disc. Pop disc 1 then upon booting the computer, press F12 to load boot menu then choose the dvd/cd drive. Once it finished loading, choose advanced option instead of Toshiba recovery wizard and it will lead you to system restore.

If both of the steps failed, unfortunately, you need to do full system recovery. Just do step 2 and choose Toshiba recovery Wizard, Out of the box state. This will delete all your data.

hope this helps.
