Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

How do I fix my new TV which will sometimes lock up and will not respond to some buttons on the remote or the TV itself?

I think this only happens when I switch to an HDMI input that doesn't have a incoming signal. When I do this all of the physical buttons on the TV stop responding and most of the buttons on the remote stop responding. This includes the power buttons and input buttons. The Netflix and similar buttons will launch their apps but when I exit I'm back where I started. I usually have to unplug the TV and plug it back in.

i think that there is a shorted buttons or in normally close position, try to press each buttons slowly and you will feel something that is ticking if one of the buttons does not tick it is damage it is in normally close position that will be the cause of the problem. specially check the volume button.

I have a Motorola DCT6416 PVR. Dog layed on remote and de-programmed. I can't find the program code to fix my remote control.

are you sure its not something simple like the remote is in the wrong mode. what lights up on the remote when you push buttons?

what isn't working? the cable box not responding? the tv not responding? nothing?

RCN's motorola code is 002 (actually i think the new remotes may be different), TV code could be anything.

FYI: battery cover on remote sometimes has directions for code search

hope something here helped

My tv randomly turns on, and changes the channel... i have tried everything to get it to stop and cant, and now it just goes between channel 3 and 44 randomly

Hi my name is Roety,
I can help you with your issue ,
You either have a stuck button or a bad main board.
Running the autoscan / autoprogram with a good signal sometimes locks the TV processor to the received channels only.

Do you still have the instruction booklet for the Tv? Find the remote codes and try re-programming the remote. If this still happens try programming an after market universal remote. Hope this helps.

LG LCD TV won't respond to remote controllers

sparrow00, your fix worked for me, and I think I know why. The 1/8" remote input jack on the back of the TV has electrical contacts inside that are probably there to sense the presence of a plug-in remote. When they detect the insertion of this plug they disable the front panel IR (infrared) receiver and the TV only responds to this plugged-in remote and the buttons on the TV itself. After some period of time these contacts get corroded and the circuit is no longer completed between them. The TV now thinks an external remote is plugged in, and it ignores its own front panel IR receiver.

When you plug a 1/8" plug into this remote socket on the back of the TV it wipes away the corrosion. When you remove the plug the internal contacts conduct properly again and the TV responds to its front panel IR receiver. For best results you should plug a 1/8" headphone plug into this remote jack and twist it a few times, then pull it out and repeat several times. Repeat every frew months or whenever the TV acts up.
Thanks for your solution!

Tv switches itself on and off no picture

Just had this happen to me. It's caused by a failure of the power supply board. Replacing the power supply should fix this issue.

This appears to be a very comon problem.

Samsung tv

If the set has a power button, try turning it on with that.  I suspect it won't respond to that either and the problem is really with the TV itself.
If it does have a power button and the set reacts the same, then either the power supply in the set or a circuit it services has failed. You didn't list the TV model number so we don't have enough information to even start with.
One last thing you can try is to pull the AC plug and let it sit overnight; sometimes circuits can 'lock up' and will respond again if allowed to sit and all its internals go to zero for a while.

Polaroid TTM-2003 Locked up.

The same thing happened to me. The manual on polaroid.com says to press and hold the F button (located at the top of the remote) and press the mute button at the same time. This will unlock as well as lock the TV. It's a child safety feature.
