I would appear that you have somehow setup something on those keys - e with an accent above is most likely French

you have a french keyboard enabled. Look for a keyboard icon on bottom right of your task bar, select US keyboard

Alt>Shift will switch back and forth between english and french

came online to find the answer myself, and then fooled around with my keyboard... try pressing ctrl + shift. It just worked for mine. Good luck!

Press shift+Crtl a few times until you get it back =)

For Windows XP: Check the Regional and Language Options panel in your Control Panels (Languages tab, then Details) to make sure that your keyboard is set for English:Keyboard:US. If it isn't, change it to that.
