Can not finalize disk (cd or dvd)

My Sony DVD RW Dru-510A worked wonderful until my HP with XP crashed and I had to reinstall EVERYTHING! I got everything back online and my DVD burner didn't come back all the way! It plays, but can not finalize a cd or dvd. Sony said it was HP problem, and HP said it was Sony problem. I get either can not finalize disk message or can not find drive. Thanks for the help! I burnt some songs on a CD-R using justburn on my Compaq computer. This computer crashed before I could finalize the disc. I dumped it and bought an HP. The HP cannot finalize the disc. Help!

I just burned 6 movies, I noticed that when it goes to finalize, it ejects before finalization is complete. I use FAB Platinum 4.1. I'm going to go into the settings and use Nero burning rom before I remove my Sony and put in my other burner (Plextor) better then Sony I think. I used Nero before and it helped, maybe it will help this time. Why 3 movies did not play, and the others did is beyond me. Dan J

Well a quick check here says it should manage 4 x DVD write speeds:-

The only thing I can think of is that lens may have some dust on it, try a CD lens cleaning disk or a blast of air from an aerosol spray can.

After this, I'm afraid its down a replacement.

If the drive is recognised then you do not have a problem with the drive. You might have a problem with the zone (Dvds films ).

Finalize a dvd made in a video camcorder

you cannot finalise after the dvd has been recorded on as if it's not rewritable then it cannot be reused, or rewriten or altered in any way.
