Loss of GPS Signal and Yardages

It is often thought that a GPS device like the SkyCaddie should keep constant uninterrupted view and connection to the satellites, thus always giving accurate yardage information. This is true of cellular technology, indoors or out, etc, but not for a GPS device like the SkyCaddie. A clear, unobstructed view of the sky must always be maintained for optimum performance. Here are some other tips:

1. When going to play golf, the SkyCaddie should have a fully charged battery and should be allowed to search and acquire satellites for at least 10-15 minutes, prior to play. During this time, the device should be stationary. Many people power the device on then head straight to the course. From that point on, the yardage info you get may be off or may not show at all.

2. Is the golf course you are playing in need of an update? It's good to plug your SkyCaddie into your computer and allow it to sync with the SkyCaddie desktop software. You will receive updates to the device if you do this periodically and you can view your course list to see if any of your downloaded golf courses should need an update. An unupdated golf course on the device can cause yardage problems.

3. Placing the SkyCaddie in your pocket during the game, placing it in a golf cart cup holder, tall trees or heavy shrubbery, hilly terrain, very overcast cloudy days, etc., all can impede satellite acquisition and yardage accuracy.

4. Internal issues. Most SkyCaddie models may have an outward antennae view, but there is also an inward antennae connection that could be compromised. If this is true, the user will not know this, as this type of issue is internal and will need to be sent in to the company for repair, contact them to have this done. This can also be the source of why a device never seems to acquire satellites and/or give accurate yardage information.

Device did not show yardage to hole

Maybe the yardage indication is predicated on the screen size - on many units if you are way out in range, you get nada until you zoom in. Check that angle out.

It reads 10 to 20 yards shorter than actual yardage.

re-calibrate the unit or get a more accurate unit
20 yards for a cheap gps unit is about average
remember that you actual yardage is measured by the revolutions and circumference of the tyres so the difference could be coming from that area rather than from the gps unit

Bushnell neo+

The wording on this question is almost word for word of a message I sent iGolf customer support. If it's my message I don't know how it showed up here on fixya. Sent it also to bushnell support, both said in essence that a demo unit won't work, although i have seen factory demo's being sold on various websites. 1 tech. @ IGolf uploaded to me 2 files EMBEDD01.GLF and SYSREG.SMI which I loaded on th my neo+ after deleting both of the 2 files originally on the unit. But again everthing works, satallite signal strong, courses are loaded but no yardage is shown. It seems to be working when mapping a hole on the course (front, center, and back) but on resume play hole shows no yardage.I believe it's the firmware that is in the demo unit. my ? to iGolf and bushnell was if there was anyway to update the firmware but neither gave me an answer.

Casio atomic watch only has intermittent receive indicator

The receive indicator tells you the strength of the signal when the timing signal was transmitted, (this occurs only during the night).

The strength of the signal dictates how much of the indicator is shown i.e. full strength, full picture, half strength, half picture, no picture, no signal.

Signal strength seems to vary with location (how far you are from the transmitter), so perhaps you are in a poor reception area.

Disconnect your PC from the Internet and try again. That trick worked for me.
