This is kind of a tough one, so I'll give you what I can. Open the case and locate the largest board ( the motherboard) and painted on the motherboard (with usually white lettering paint) there should be the name of the manufacturer. Some of the majors are Asus, Intel, Biostar, Abit, Foxconn, Gigabyte, evga just to name a few. There should be a model number painted somewhere on the board in smaller lettering as well. If not paint, look for a thin somewhat long sticker towards the perimeter of the board which contains a model number and a serial number. If you can find a model number but no vendor name, do a google search on the model number and the name might pop-up. If this doesn't get you anywhere, your next step is to identify the sound chip itself. This isn't as daunting as it sounds, but will take a bit of time. To identify the sound chip look on the motherboard, and write down the information on each chip. You don't need to write down any information for chips that have heat sinks (like the processor, graphics, sometimes the bridge chips) will only leave a few. Then do a google search one by one until you hit on one that is a sound chip. Then do a google search for drivers for that chip. Hope this gets you started.

In the days of AMD Athlon chips we didn't have SATA, but it sounds like you do, and you have hooked the drive up?

1) Make sure the BIOS has SATA enabled as well as IDE
2) Make sure your device manager has a driver for your motherboards SATA controller
3) Open computer management
4) Choose Disk management
5) Initialise disk
6) Create partition.
7) Format as per normal.

I dont have sound in my IBM laptop

Have you reloaded the motherboard drivers for audio after formatting? If not connect to the net, visit the manufacturers web-site and download the latest sound driver for your model after having selected the OS you are using. The sound is integrated sound built in the Motherboard, hence without the correct driver it will not work..........sodeep

if you open the computer case and look at the mother board the name will be printed on it.we cant really help unless you know the make and model number of your motherboard.

computer name is irrelevant and same for the chipset.

find the model number and post back and we will help find all the drivers  you need.

Sound driver

Tenes que ir a la pagina de MSI y bajar los controladores de sonido de tu mother. La url es http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php. Debes verificar el modelo de tu mother y el micro y zocalo que tenes, ya que por ese modelo que decis no aparece.

Primary hdd(SATA) appears as removeable storage

There is no problem about that because my system here was all removable storage detected.its thesame (SATA) ..If try to safely remove that you cannot remove because it was use by the system so don't worry about that.

I encoutered that problem 35 times already.
