How do I remove the glass cover from our cooktop?

I need to replace one of the controls on our electric cooktop. The top appears to be held on by an adhesive, but I can't tell for sure. Some posts have referenced screws that hold the top on, but I don't see those under the appliance. How do I get the glass part off? Thanks!

Found it! I had to remove the braces holding the unit in and lift it from the cradle. Once I did that the screws that hold the glass on where on the sides.

NET7452UC Electric Cooktop shows errors 26 and 42. What do they mean?

Problem: Error codes 26 or 42 after turning on too many heating elements.
Potential issue: Damaged main electronic board

Specific case: Error code 42 after turning on more than 3 elements, then already after 2, 1 until none of the cooking element could be turned on, over a period of a few weeks.
Root cause: Dying/blown electrolytic capacitor on the main electronics board.

Solution:
1) Turn off power (circuit breaker) - caution high voltage inside the cooktop
2) Lift the cooktop out of the hole in the countertop and slide it on a flat surface
3) Remove all screws around the metal housing using a torx screwdriver
4) Carefully tilt the glass top out of the housing on the front, noting that there are electrical connections in the rear, and place the rear end of the glass on a stable surface. You may need someone's assistance here.
5) After double-checking that there is no power, record the color coding of the four wires connected to the glass assembly (green for ground, white, black, red from left to right)
6) Next open the black plastic cover by removing four Torx screws.
7) Carefully remove from the connector on the left the the plastic strip connecting to the display board.
8) Carefully remove the circuit board with relays and capacitors that is held in place by plastic tabs.
9) If one of the capacitors is bulging out or showing sings of damage on top, replacing it may fix the appliance. De-soldering a bad capacitor requires some tools and skill. Replace the capacitor with at least the same capacity, voltage and use high-temp. 105C version) Alternatively, instead of replacing a $2 component you will have to replace the entire board.
10) Reassemble and done.

Glass top is scratched and discolored...can you replace just the glass top? Susan

GLASS MAINTOP ASSY
Part Number PS253905
price around $812.92

Replaced main glass cooking surface on cooktop

First, shut of the breaker to the cooktop.
Then removed two screws to release brackets holding cooktop down. Then lifted the cooktop out of the recess in the counter top and removed the screws around the outside of the glass top. Removed the old, cracked top, by unplugging from the motherboard.
Turned the new cooktop upside down on table and placed weather stripping around the entire underside outside edge (to keep spills from going under the cooktop and cushion the cooktop from the counter top.
Then plugged the new cooktop into the motherboard, replaced screws around outside edge, lowered the cooktop into the recess in the counter, and reinserted the two screws into the hold-down brackets.
Turned the breaker back on.
Note: Just need Screw drivers and 40 minutes of your time.

Jenn air cook top

Yes you can. Call Jenn Air ((877) 232-6771) and give them your model number (serial is helpful too). They sent my replacement glass within a week. I have a model JED8430ABD from 2000 and they had the top. Fit perfectly and took about an hour to replace.

To change it out, after unplugging the cooktop, I removed the metal tape connecting the external vent shaft to the blower. Then I just lifted the entire cooktop out up out of the countertop so I could access the screws on the sides of the cooktop (looking at the edges of the new cooktop glass helped me figure out which screws to remove around the edge). Then I removed the 2 screws in the vent area on top (1 black screw on each side). And that released the cooktop glass from the metal box that holds the burners. I then took the rubber rings out of the knob holes so I could put them in the new cooktop (I almost missed that...). Finally, I put the new cooktop glass on, put the screws back in, lowered the cooktop back into the counter, and retaped the blower to the vent shaft. Voila!

I really wouldn't be afraid of doing this yourself if you are handy at all. And it will save you a ton. Good luck.

PS The screws around the perimeter are hexigon shapped, so you can't just use a screwdriver. I found my Black & Decker electric screwdriver had that same shaped hole that it held the bit, so I just pulled out the bit and used the screwdriver that way. Worked like a charm.

Jenn-air JED8430 cooktop

Fairly difficult but doable for the mechanically inclined. They are all a little different - look underneath to uninstall the entire unit (turn off power first!). It is probably held in by a few screws. The glass is likely held by screws underneath as well. Hope this helps!

Replace JED8430ADB Ceramic Glass

First, you have to pull out the cooktop from the counter and remove the knobs.
Next, there are hex screws around the perimeter - do not remove the lowest ones on the front and the back (they hold the tray that the burners sit in) or the ones on the bottom (they help to hold on the blower assembly).
The final trick are two screws that are located in the downdraft plenum - there's one on each side (you don't have to remove the two in the back or the front - those are for small covers only).
The glass should lift out.
When putting the new glass in, remember that the plenum walls fit on the inside of the glass (you won't see the top of the steel).

Glass top

The cooktop will need to be removed from the counter. Turn it upside down and remove the screws. The biggest problem will be removing the cooktop from the counter. Sometimes it is not worth fixing as the part could cost around $400. NEVER use a cracked top as it could suddenly explode. This is tempered glass and very unstable if cracked or chipped.

Jenn air jed 8430 electric cooktop control switch for rear burner

The cook top is attached to the wood frame by brackets, just remove the screws and the electric connection, make sure the power is off from the main box, it's a 220 volt wiring and then just lift the top off. to remove the glass, look around the edges and you should see some small screws, just remove them and the glass should lift off.

Plastic melted on my glass cooktop

didi you try heating the burner slightly to soften the plastic a bit before trying to scrape off, cant see any reason why that wouldnt work, using a razor blade held flat will scrape just about anything off of the glass tops!

Thermador wcggcv30 gas cooktop - how to remove glass top

Remove the brass ring nuts and the screw from each of the burners and pull off the knobs, then lift up the glass cooktop; no need to remove the three screws around the perimeter or even take out the box.
