That would suggest that you still have new messages. You could try resetting the device to factory defaults as described on page 48 of the instruction manual here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/szmanuals/73df25d2624475dac2cfdcbfa148f4a9

Note that doing so will reset all settings and any stored messages ! Please only use it as a last resort. A second option is to unplug the charger and remove all batteries for at least 30s before connecting it again ...
