Hi Simoandson, The scanner failure message usually occures when the scanner bulb is not getting heated properly or the scanner bulb is defective. We can check with the issue by connecting the printer direcly to wall outlet and then lift the scanner lid and press scan or copy button and check for the scanner bulb is lit and scanner machinisum is moving fine under the scanner bed.. There is also a Firmware update released by HP that can be downloaded and installed to fix the issue: Here is the link: ========= http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-14037-3&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=90809&os=228&lang=en ======= Just click on the link and in the download webpage click on the download only button and select save to save the download to the computer and once the file is saved make sure that the printer is turn on and connected fine and click on the file to install the firmware update to the unit If the issue still presists try to performe the steps in the below webpage: =========== http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00787271&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=1138346&dlc=en&lang=en ======== Hope this will help you to fix the issue Regards, Barret.

SOURCE: Scanner FailureTurn power off then on again Message Window pops up continuously
Turning on and off or doing the re-set thing didn't work for me.
The solution that worked for me: Removing the black bulb cover and cleaning the mirrors.
Open the hinged lid, lift up and out and set aside. This will expose two small screws in back that holds the glass cover on. Remove the two screws. I used a small allen wrench. Carefully lift the gray glass cover up in back and pry loose in front, one corner at the time. Flip the cover over to the right and carefully set aside, keeping it at the same height as the top of the printer. Do not let the ribbon come out. Also, the little screws will fall out so don't lose them. Once you have exposed the inside, the key to everything is to carefully remove the black bulb/mirror cover on top and LEAVE OFF. There are two small slots on top to allow you to do this, or simply pry off from the side. Once removed, clean the mirrors with a q-tip and go ahead and clean the underside of the glass top while you have it off. Flip the glass top back over making sure the ribbon stays in (you may need to feed it back in a little). Snap the glass top back on, front to back, and replace screws. You should be good to go! I sure hope this helps whomever, because this is a great little printer/copier that I almost tossed.

Hi,
I understand that you are receiving Scanner failure error.
Please follow the below given instructions to get the issue resolved.
Please remove the All-in-One Printer from the Power Surge Protector and plug it directly into a wall Power outlet, as the surge protector may not provide enough power to printer.
Let us power cycle your All-in-one to remove any static electricity in your All-in-one.
Please perform the step given below to power cycle the unit after removing the print cartridges from the printer:
1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only
4. Repeat steps 2-3 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one to your computer.
Please try installing the below patch and check for the result:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-14037-3&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=90809&os=228&lang=en
Just copy and paste the entire link into the Internet browser's address bar and press enter
If the issue persists, try resetting the All-in-one to factory defaults by following the below given instructions:
Note:
A semi-full reset will do the following:
The user settings to the factory defaults, Language and country settings on some models, Fax logs, Fax headers, Fax speed dial information.
Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:
1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.
2. Press and hold Cancel and the Right Arrow while plugging in the power cord.
Continue holding until it displays S Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.
This should resolve the issue.
