Satellite (A75S206) runs well from outlet but never from battery. Was told that mobo can't accept dc. Need new mobo. True?

  • loyd516 Jul 11, 2009

Thanks sspazz35. It will be a week or so to get a fresh battery. I will try that first and let you know. Many tanks. Tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank, tank.

  • loyd516 Jul 13, 2009

    sspazz35

The new batt was cheaper and easier than a mobo fix. The a75s206 will not run from it. It has an affinity for wall power and simply will not use the batt. One reason for laptops is that they are free of the plug. So, heck what is the next best move to get on batt.

Hello loyd516,

Have you tried a new battery? They are much much cheaper, and a whole lot easier to replace than a motherboard.

Here are replacement batteries that I found searching with Google.
http://www.google.com/products?q=Satellite+A75-S206+battery&hl=en

According to Toshiba, there has been a battery recall for your specific model.
If that is the case I would definitely contact Toshiba support about it. Maybe you will get a free battery out of the deal. Who knows.
Here is the link and the list(your model is highlighted)

Charger light comes on but laptop won't start or charge even with new battery it was working till i did a calibrate the battery

IF you are not using a Dell charger that is the first thing to try. They are proprietary and wont run the laptop in some cases involving the battery. There could also be an issue with the MOSFET power transistors that may have happened at the same time. This is not easy to check or repair.

How do i fix charging problem in hp Compaq Presario laptop

that post is hard to read and no PC model told at all. Cq61?
the PC must run on AC power pack with no battery there.
does it?

99% of all cases like this the battery is bad.
you do know that most charges LIE to you when the battery is bad.
this is a fact, so savvy owner have a good spare battery.
not you so are stuck in a conundrum.
I will not go in to my 10 page thesis on why that happens
but lets so an analogy,
I look at my car and the tires look ok, but up close not.
the charge can not look inside any battery to see 1 cell is bad physically i some odd way.
there are only 3 causes.
1: wrong power pack AC mixed up with other PC etc and is wrong.
2: bad battery is 99% of all causes, for sure, even 1 year old abused
and that means running on battery all the time kills them dead fast.
ok https://batteryuniversity.com/ teaches why>?
3: bad charge chip and needs new mobo or $300 gee that cheap battery new looks like a great guess no? $15>? as does #1

"but the charger alone"?????
this i think means battery is gone???????? faIls?????
if true that means the AC power pack is bad or wrong.
the charger is a chip and is on the mopo not the power pack
the power pack is just that at AC to DC power supply pack
a key fact to learn, where things really are to diagnose real problems

learn to call it a power pack and seems yours is DOA./
all VRM and charge chips are on the mobo !
even shorted battery can cause the PC to go dead
as it overloads all power rails in he PC. (and common)

some PC ive seen , used, (wrong mix)
are sold with the wrong power pack ! the cheap one is low watts;
so seller do that BAD ACT.
PC that need 30w, 60watt or 90watt pack ,.must use the right pack.

that is because most PC have 5 CPU or 2 or 3 GPU choices new or 4 banks of faster RAM. called OPTION. new.
and burn lots of power, so the 95watt pack must be used.
or H3LL to pay for sure. and PCs run on the highest power watts pack in the series. of PC not told by you at all
no service tag data told so not waxing smarter possible.

Ac power cable connection

its a bad pack why not buy one for $8 and not try to do hacking or worse? why think its not bad,? if you used a voltmeter at the mobo side, you know that it was or was not, ONLY!
i cant see you twist things,?
if the mobo jack is bad, on the mobo
there are only 2 fixes for that.
1: buy a new mobo (or new PC)
2: buy the jack and solder it on your self. or a tech do that.

here:
1: new coin cell RTC battery is first.
2: get the main battery out, the bigone they short and overload, the regulators. and the power pack.
leave the big battery out , work better now???????
3: try a new $8 pack. work ok now.?
4: ok we check the Jack next, at the mobo side. for damage
common this is .. for sure something SO OLD. but is only 6 year old I see. not tool old but no spring chicken sure.

RTC coin on page 53 pdf.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02985882

now i look inside for you,. reading your manual for you and
see what./
I see this.
lucky you, the jack is cable'IZED
NOT the direct mobo type.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-Power-Jack-Harness-Cable-HP-Compaq-Presario-CQ60-203NR-CQ60-204NR-CQ60-206US/110962776204?hash=item19d5e5988c:g:I~QAAMXQs~ZRl7Mb

see that.
so if that fails, power is lost.
easy no?/ no power no go.

Will cloned Hard drive work with new MoBo and CPU

No, it's not true, but you will need to buy Partition Magic to clone the smaller drive onto the larger one.

The new MoBo and CPU might give you more trouble though. All of the windows drivers for the old MoBo will be confused when they see all new hardware. In the olden (WinNT) days, this rarely worked. Now in the WinXP SP3/Vista days, you'll probably be just fine.

if you are sure that both power adapters are fine and it is still not working then you may have an internal fault or the pin inside may be damaged..

Wont turn on

Hi,

you have one of 3 things wrong here.

1:) the battery is dead, and needs to be replaced ( suggest e-bay china seller for cheapest )
2:) the AC adaptor or dc socket on the motherboard is Faulty.
3:) motherboard fault, regarding charging circuit board.

Go for the most cost effective option First. New Battery. Then AC Adaptor. Finally would be motherboard replacement.
