The SC typewriters need lubrication annually. If you have not lubricated it lately, it's time!

My Smith Corona Galaxie 12 malfunctions by automatically adding spaces between letters while I type. How do I fix this?

Did you ever get a resolution to the added space problem? I just purchased an old Smith-Corona Super Sterling and it is doing the exact same thing.

Galaxie twelve power-space bar

There is an adjustment for the power space bar..looks like it is pulling the escapement out too far. Not something for a novice to try..It may also have a bind in it.If so just try to wiggle it to remove the bind.
Hope this helps

I have a Smith Corona Galaxie Twelve typewriter. The roll where the paper lays will not type through, it keeps sliding back to the far right end of the page. any ideas?

Sounds like the escapement is stuck or broken. Can you move the carriage release levers? Do they have some spring tension on them? Open the bottom of the unit and look down at the bottm of machine and while moving the carriage, look for movement in the middle bottom section. Particularly if you depress the spacebar, watch for the escapement to rock back and forth. Maybe gummy. Try a little lube spray.
