I had the same problem and with some pushing and pulling I got the door open again.
TURN OFF THE BREAKER....
Next take all the screws out of the door panel to access the door latch assembly. You will see the handle has plastic tabs that hold it in place which are broken. Order a new assembly and install it.
My problem was getting the wiring harness off of the switches they are clipped on very tightly so I just kept the old ones connected and put them on the new assembly.

Good luck
O

I just scoffed at Ron's answer just now. I thought, this guy must not understand the question or hasn't seen the washer we have. Then, after thinking a bit, I began wiggling the strike plate and tugging on it after unscrewing the screw on top...it pulled out and the door just fell open.

Turns out Ron's pretty much the smartest guy on this thread.

Thanks Ron! You're a genius.

SOURCE: Opened door during cycle, latch now stuck in closed position, can't re-close

twist a paperclip around some pliers so you have a circle opening. then hook the paperclip around the latch and pull outward with the pliers. once the latch is facing outwards the door should close again

SOURCE: dishwasher door latch

sounds as if your door latch/handle is broken internally.your dishwasher is installed with 2 screws to theunderside of your countertop. its tricky but youll have to remove them (adjusting to leveling legs down will give you more room to get some kinda a phillips head bit in ther to remove the screws), once out slide the d/w foward and remove the strike plate door will open at least get your dishes out

Repaired latch inside door, but when I close the door the light stays on and reads close door

Repaired latch inside door, but when I close the door the light stays on and reads close door
How To Fix A Stuck Latch If your door can open correctly but can't close without getting stuck, it's likely an issue with the latch. Multiple issues can compromise door latches, such as a mechanical error, worn down latch components, broken door handle cables, and more. If the latch is simply stuck, you should be able to fix this yourself without taking your car to a mechanic. Just take some oil lubricant, like WD-40, and spread/spray it into the latch mechanism of your open door. Let the oil soak in for a little bit, then use a microfiber cloth to rub the oil into any visible parts of the latch. While performing this task, check to see if you can find any rust on latch components. If you do, use a piece of steel wool to scrape the rust away. Once removed, try opening the latch with your door handle to confirm that it is once again functioning correctly. In some situations, your latch may accidentally be closed when it should be open. This can happen for multiple reasons - sometimes due to an electrical glitch or a mistake made while repairing the door. Either way, if you have a car door with a closed latch, try opening your door and looking at the latch to determine its orientation. Then, open a functional door and look at the latch to see how it's supposed to be. A working door will have a latch with "open" jaws. These jaws can catch the door jamb anchor and rotate into a closed orientation to secure the door. If the latch's jaws are already closed, it can't engage with the anchor or close properly. To fix this issue, take a screwdriver and hold the door handle in the open position (pulling if necessary). As you pull the handle, rotate the latch with your screwdriver into the correct orientation. If needed, ask a friend or family member to help you hold the door or hold the handle open for you while you perform this action. Once you have moved the latch into the correct orientation, test the door handle a few times. The latch should open when you pull the door handle, and the door should again be functioning correctly.

Kitchenaid dishwasher KUDS30IXBL door locked open, will not close

There should be a type of hook inside the hole where the door latches to the machine. Hold the handle up and rotate the hook latch so the open side is pointing towards the machine. The click you heard was the latch that holds the door closed moving to the closed position when the door was open, and it needs to be in the release position.

Unable to close door

I have 2 different door problems with my 99 Park Ave: one door opens more than it should and often can't get it to move to close it and the other door opens but when trying to close it, the door will not latch closed. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by door wouldn't close, but with your mention of the metal parts, I'm gonna take a guess that it doesn't latch closed (kind of bounces back open too). For that problem I do 2 things to avoid actually fixing the problem. First, I check that the door handles are in the closed door position (my outside handle stays stuck out in the pulled position); I push them both in. If that doesn't work, I push down on the latch mechanism in the edge of the door to find that it was stuck in the open position. Once I do those 2 things, my door closes perfectly.
I hope this helped!

Door Open but latch in closed position - HELP!

You need to operate the door release handle at the same time as applying pressure to the latch you can see just inside the door (imagine which way it would move if the thing was working as designed), the tech has possibly simulated a door closed position for testing purposes.

Soap door latch won't latch close

Make sure the dial that you turn to start the dishwasher is all the way to the beginning. Sometimes my little grandson comes by and plays with it, turning it. I load, add soap and the dispenser won't close. I check the outside dial, and sure enough, set it to the very beginning and the dispenser locks in place!
