SOURCE: Have simplex lp1000 keyless lock sytem is zeroed

"If your lock is opening on every turn of the knob or lever, except upon entering a code, this may be a ZERO CODE. Before attempting to remove the lock from the door, refer to the troubleshooting procedures outlined at bottom of this document for a zero code symptom/solution

Solution: Follow the procedure for changing a combination except omit step 3 (do not enter
the existing combination)."

I excerpted the above from the full instructions on how to change the code. If you don't have them, got to this link:

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13

and go across from L1000 to the last column, "Tips".
When you hover your mouse over PDF, two choices will appear; left click on the upper one, "Changing the code/..." to download it.
The download will be a PDF file format. If you are unable to open it, you will need to download and install Adobe Reader on your computer. There is a link (Get Adobe Reader) at the top right of the literature grid.
When you do get the download open, you will have the stepwise procedure and illustrations necessary-but don't forget to omit Step 3, if you believe that you have the ZERO code problem!

Good luck--and please provide feedback if this helps!

SOURCE: Have simplex lp1000 keyless lock sytem is zeroed

you need to set a code, turn spanner right (small click) and turn back. Turn outer handle to stop position (latch won't retract). Enter code & turn outer handle again. Lock should be locked at this point unless code is entered.

How to change core on simplex 1000

Get the complete installation instructions as a PDF download from here:

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13

On this grid, across from "1000", click on PDF under the "Manual" column. If you cannot open the download, you will need to download and install Adobe Reader--there is a link in the upper right corner of the download grid.

You may also need a DF59 key and spanner wrench to change the core. Order part number 20127800001 ($9.00) from Kaba Ilco.
In fact, I'd call them before starting the process for technical advice:
Technical Service Dept.
For further information at (800) 849-8324
or (336) 725-1331.

They are located in North Carolina, so the best time to call is probably during east coast business hours.

Good luck--and please provide feedback if this helps!

I HAVE TWO LP 1000 DEVICES AND UNLESS I LIFT UP ON HANDLE AFTER IT HAS RETRACTED THEY STAY IN UNLOCKED MODE.

Navigate to this page, which is a grid of the various models of Kaba locks, and select the installation instruction download for your L1000 locks:

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13&obj=1000

The download will be a PDF file, which requires Adobe Reader or similar program to view the file. If you don't have it installed, there is a link to Adobe Reader at the top of the grid chart.

When you have the "Manual" downloaded and opened, scroll down to "Troubleshooting" page 40 of 44, where it states

Outside lever when turned always retracts latch without depressing any buttons.

Lock is in zero combination.

Follow the procedure for changing a
combination except omit step 3 (do not enter the existing combination)

This sounds like the solution to the problem you are describing. Good luck!

I need to change combination but loss instructions on how to do so.

I found this instruction elsewhere on this site ( thanks to pctuneup191):

1.) ENSURE THE DOOR IS OPEN.

2.) INSERT THE DF-59 CONTROL KEY INTO THE COMBINATION CHANGE PLUG ASSEMBLY (ON THE BACK OF THE

DOOR) AND UNSCREW THE CYLINDER BY TURNING THE KEY COUNTERCLOCKWISE.

3.) TAKE THE CHANGE PLUG ASSEMBLY COMPLETELY OUT OF THE DOOR.

4.) TURN THE OUTSIDE DOOR KNOB CLOCKWISE ALL THE WAY UNTIL IT STOPS, THEN RELEASE THE KNOB.

5.) PRESS IN THE EXISTING COMBINATION FIRMLY.

6.) INSERT THE SPANNER WRENCH IN THE COMBINATION CHANGE SLEEVE. IT SHOULD INSERT AT THE NINE

O'CLOCK POSITION.

7.) TURN THE SPANNER WRENCH GENTLY CLOCKWISE UNTIL IT STOPS AT THE 12 O'CLOCK POSITION. NOTE

THE NOTCHES IN THE COMBINATION CHANGE SLEEVE MOVES AS THE SLEEVE IS MOVED.

8.) TURN THE SPANNER WRENCH COUNTERCLOCKWISE BACK TO THE NINE O'CLOCK POSITION UNTIL IT STOPS.

Resetting the Code/Combination From a Lost Code
Simplex LP1000
Important: There is no procedure for finding an unknown combination from the front of the lock. A lost combination must be cleared by removing the combination chamber from the lock housing, then a new combination can be set.
LP1000 Series FAQ
Resetting the Code/Combination From a Lost Code
1. Remove the back plate from the front lock housing by removing the six back plate screws.
2. Remove the two Phillips head screws (F) securing the guide bracket (D
to the front housing. Grasp the guide bracket and slide it back to
disengage it from the clutch linkage (see figure 1).
3. Lift the two chamber links (A) off of the control shaft (B) using a small flat blade screwdriver. Mark links to assure proper reassembly (see figure 1).
4. Remove the combination chamber (E) by removing the Phillips head screws (G) at each end of the chamber (see figure 1).
5. Remove shaft bushing (C) from control shaft (see figure 1).
6. Remove chamber cover marked ILCO UNICAN (A) (see figure 2) by gently tapping the lip of the chamber cover (A) at the control shaft end of the
chamber (see figure 3) with a screwdriver to detach it from the staked joints (B).
7. Lay the chamber on its side as shown in figure 4.
8. With tweezers, or other tool, slide the "E" ring (B) off the unlocking slide
stud (A) (see figure 17-4), then gently lift the end of the unlocking slide (C) over the unlocking slide stud (A) (see figure 5).
Note: The unlocking slide (C) is under spring tension and will be easier to lift if pushed to the left to ease tension. Swing the unlocking slide (C) sufficiently to clear the gears, (D) no further than shown in figure 5.
9. Depress the lockout slide (E) as shown in figure 6. The gears (D) are now free to rotate.
10. Turn each gear (D) so that the slots (F) are aligned as shown in figure 6.
11. Return the unlocking slide (C) over the unlocking slide studs (A) while making certain the five toes (G) are engaged in the five gear pockets (F). It may be necessary to adjust each gear (D) slightly to make proper alignment between toes and gear slots (see figures 6 & 7).
Re-secure the "E" ring on the stud (A). Your chamber will now resemble figure 7 and is ready for reassembly with the lock housing.
REASSEMBLY
1. Re-secure the chamber cover (A) marked ILCO UNICAN. Make sure the staked joints (B) (see figure 2) on both end plates fit through both slots on the chamber cover.
2. Re-secure the shaft bushing (C) with flat side facing up (see figure 8).
3. Secure the combination chamber with the two Phillips head screws (G) you removed earlier.
4. Re-secure the chamber links (A) onto the control shaft.
5. Replace the guide bracket (D) by aligning the clutch linkage in the guide bracket and secure with the two Phillips head screws (F) previously removed.
6. Replace the back plate and secure it with the six back plate screws.
SETTING THE COMBINATION
Do not attempt to set a combination until the complete unit has been reassembled.
Perform the following steps in the order shown.
1. Turn the outside lever once to the stop position and then release.
2. Enter the new combination.
3. Turn the outside lever to the stop position, make sure the latch is fully retracted, then release
the lever.

How do you change the handing on a unican 1000

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13&obj=1000
you can download a manual here. I assume you mean to change from left hand door to right hand door? The manual will describe how to do that.

Lost code

Kaba Ilco has a FAQ document on resetting the code here. If you need more detailed information, your user manual is here.

I'd highly recommend looking at the FAQ. Basically you're going to have to open the unit up, reset the gears so all the slots are lined up facing you, then put the unit back together.

Once you've got everything back together, you turn the outside lever to the stop position, release it, and enter the new combination. Turn the outside lever tot he stop position again, and you're done.
