Bissell proheat pro tech model 7901-3 smart mix dial and valve assembly

I disassembled to clean out some hoses. The smart mix valve fell out and I don't know what position it was in in relation to the smart mix dial on the outside of machine. Can you help or do you know where I could obtain a schematic that shows the way to do it. Thanks Boyd

Turn the knob to the water only, put the piston on the bottom of the knob then turn it slightly so it doesn't fall off, Start to put the cover on, when it is straight, turn the knob to the water only selection and push the top all the way down. The piston should have gone into the hole and the knob should turn easily.

I don't know what happened, but it seems my unit is not pushing down all the way to engage the cleaning solution. Also when I turn the knob for the POWERDRIVE, the entire handle pulls out and the unit shuts off

Replacing Smart Mix knob

The knob itself will only go in one way, What I was talking about is when you put the top cover back on, the knob should be in the water only position. This way the piston (on the bottom of the knob) will go into the slot correctly.

Make sure that the piston on the bottom of the smart mix valve is in the water only position.(needs be be on the knob and not sitting in the hole). With the top off, it is easier if you have a block of wood or something under the base to hold it up. Other wise it drops down and the screws can't grap the base. Also make sure all hoses aren't being pinched.

Bissell doesn't work with cover on...

Did you put the piston on the bottom side of the smart mix knob? If not, put it on, then turn it slightly so it won't fall off. Just before putting the top cover on, put the smart mix knob in the water only spot, then push the top on and make sure that the knob turns back and forth ok. Secure the top down, and put the flow indicator on. Sometimes when you over tighten that cap, it doesn't want to spray right. So just snug it. If you haven't pinched any lines on the base or inside the handle, it should work. Could also be that the flow indictor cap is bad. MAke sure the gasket at the bottom of the tank is on the valve and not sitting in the hole.

Is the smart mix valve turning and stopping where is is supposed to, if it turns all of the way around, then it is broken inside the top cover. Try replacing the smart mix bottle insert and cap asm part #2101795 . Make sure that the rubber gasket is on the valeve asm. at thebottom of the smart mix bottle. If not, it has to be on the valve.

I assume that it is spraying water? Is the smart mix knob turning freely from one point to the end? If not then there is a problem with the smart mix asm. With liquid in the soap bottle, push the valve in to see if liquid comes out ok, couild be that the valve is bad. Is the seal on the valve at the bottom of the bottle, it has to be on that and not just sitting in the hole. You might try running a mix of water and vinegar thru it, maybe it is clogged up.

Will not spray water or cleaner

When you put the top back on, the smart mix vale should be on the clear water setting. Make sure that the piston is on the smart mix know under the top.

I managed to sort this. The small plunger valve sits in a little square crevice next to the smartmix dial - it does NOT sit in the middle as it first seems. You then have to get the lip of the smartmix dial to sit in the cut out on the side of the plunge valve so that it moves up and down when the switch is turned.
It take patience, but it is possible - no need to use any force.

Put the piston on the bottom part of the knob, You want the the knob to be at the water only setting when it goes into the slot. After the top is pushed all of the way on, turn the auto-mix knob to see if it is turning easily. If it doesn't stop, and wants to keep turning, then you probably need a new knob.
