Run it in battery to see if fixes cursor problem
also try a different mouse see if that makes the cursor move correctly
this way you see if its the mouse or power supply
might also a touch pad problem anything that controls the cursor

Gateway PC laptop mouspad not working

Check the control panel in two places:-

1. Pointers to see if you can use the existing driver, it maybe disabled there, or the settings need to be changed.

2. If it is disabled or unusable in pointers go to device manager and check if there is a yellow balloon next to the mouse, if so you have to replace the corrupt mouse driver software. global download gateway com

Mouse pointer jumps when moving it on screen.

If you are not using a mouse pad, try that. Using the mouse on reflective or glass surfaces. Try another mouse to see if it has the same issues. Check your mouse settings in control panel to make sure everything seems ok. Update mouse drivers. Finally, you can try to uninstall / reinstall the mouse.

Gateway Laptop with windows 8. Mouse pointer gone and won't come back

See if the mouse pad has been accidentally turned off. This can be done via the "Function" button on your Gateway laptop. To enable your mouse clicker again on your Gateway, head on over to the "Control Menu" in Windows and double-click on the "Control Panel" icon. Click on the "Mouse" option under the "Printers and Other Hardwareicon1.png" tab. In the next menu that pops up, click on the tab listed as "Device Settings." From this menu, you should be able to locate a listing for the mouse pad on your Gateway laptop. Click on this listing. From here, you should be able to enable the mouse again. Click "OK."
  • Head over to the official Gateway site online (see Resources). The above enabling of the mouse device under "Device Settings" may not have worked. Make your way to the "Software and Drivers" area of the site.
  • Check over your Gateway manual and find your specific serial number for your machine. Enter the number into the Gateway site when prompted and check to see if any driver updates exist for your mouse on your machine. If so, click to download the update, and then double-click the file on your computericon1.png to install it. Restart your Gateway laptop to have the changes take place. Your mouse should now work.

Cursor jumps all over the place! Cursor "arrow" shifts to cursor "four-arrrow" then decides to change zoom level all on its own. Cursor disappears, is nowhere on the screen then...

The Touchpad is the cause. Although some work fine for years others jump the the pointer every time you type (or sneeze). You can turn the touchpad off if you have a mouse for the laptop. Otherwise, you might need to exchange/purchase another model laptop.

When i connect my gateway nv52 laptop to my tv via a hdmi cable i get picture but no sound. i have sound on laptop but shouldt it come out tv speakers also? if so any ideas why it isnt?

Had very same problem. easy fix =)

If you are using vista (which came with it so you most likely are)

Simply go to the volume control, right-click, select "playback devices.

When the window pops up select the "Digital Output Device (HDMI)" it should have a little flat screen television icon.

Select it and hit the button at the bottom that says "Set Default"

    and that's it. enjoy! =D

Pointer on laptop jumps to a different line while typing.

This may be caused by weak batteries, or interference by some nearby appliance (the worst case is another wireless mouse, of course: happened all the time in an office with six identical workstations, even to the two that were beyond a wall. But also wireless - not cellular - phones may interfere). Also the positions of receiver and mouse may play a part. Once sure the batteries work, try placing the receiver and mouse in different positions and see if it helps.
Otherwise, the receiver antenna could be defective.

    Keyboard type

This problem is very common on laptop computer. What happens is while you type on the keyboard, your hand comes close to or touches the touchpad below the keyboard. The system see that as a mouse click and so your cursor will 'jump' to whatever location on the screen the mouse pointer is at.

This can happen, even if you do not feel your hand touch as the touchpads are sensitive enough to respond to your hand bring just above them.

Gateway and most manufacturers have addressed this common user frustration on new models of laptops by either adding some 'palm detection' to their touchpads and drivers or adding a simple way to turn the touchpad on or off.

Depending what model system you have (solo 9100 vs 9150) and what operating system you are running, you may have a few options.

First off, you must be using Windows 98 to have access to these options in the touchpad driver.

For a solo 9100 you have adjust to touchpad sensitivy. To get to the touchpad settings click Start->Settings->Control Panel. Double click on the MOUSE icon. Click on the TOUCHPAD tab. On this tab you can set the threshold setting as heavy as possible to help decrease the frequency at which the mouse will jump while typing. In the solo 9100 models, this is the only setting that addresses this problem.

For the solo 9150 you can the disable clickin while typing. To get to this setting: Click on START->Setting->Control Panel. Double Click on the MOUSE icon. Click on the TOUCHPAD tab. In the TAPPING section, Place a check mark next to Disable tapping when typing.

If these settings do not help or are not available due to another operating systems etc, then your best option is to physcially cover the touchpad when you are doing things that require a lot of tyings. If you need a lot of mouse/typing, then you can add an external mouse to assist you. I have found that placing a post-it note over the touchpad is more convenient then other barriers since it light sticks to help it stay in place.

I have a Gateway S-7700 series laptop. The problem I've had & seems to be getting worse is the synaptics touch pad mouse. The mouse pointer goes NUTS! & just jumps all over the place & when I'm...

Go to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager, then look down the list for mice and pointing devices, click the '+' sign and right click on your touchpad and select uninstall, do the same on the keyboard line and then restart the pc.

Both touchpad and keyboard will be reinstalled and then ready to use again as it should be back to normal
