You give no details what job has been sent to the printer before that. Probably your printer settings about the paper are some standard for your area like A4 for example, but you are trying to print a file, received from a place on earth, where the paper used in printers is different format and the file has been prepared for print on Legal, for example. To reset the process, find the print job in your Devices and Printers folder and delete it. Then power cycle the printer. Then check the document and make ajustments to it fitting the printer settings. Then print it again.

hello, the problem is there are 2 sensors that could be causeing this problem there is an optic sensor on the carraige unit, on the right hand side. with power on, open cover as if you are going to replace ink, pull power cord out of printer, move carraige over to left, with a moist paper towel, i would clean the optic sensor, only the lower portion of this area, the area that glides over the paper, make sure you do not pull on the white or by now blackish color on the electronics, this can get damaged easily. go ahead and close cover and power up, and try again, now the other sensor you have to look at is the one that you will be able to see from the back area of the machine, when you remove the duplexor, if one is added to machine, or back cover. it is located on the left hand side in the upper area, it hangs down, use compressed air in this area, make sure that this flag moves freely. if you checked everything, then the machine will need carraige unit, replace it with the exact same machines carraige. since there are about 4 types of these carraiges out there.

HP Lazer 4300dtn keeps trying to print from tray 1. How can I set the default to tray 2?

Selecting which tray is used for printing

You can select how the printer pulls paper from the trays.

Understanding tray order

When the printer receives a print job, it selects the tray by trying to match the requested paper

type and size with what has been loaded in the trays. Using an "autoselect" process, it searches

all available trays for the paper that satisfies the request, starting with the bottom tray and ending

with the top tray (tray 1). The printer begins printing the job as soon as it finds the proper type/

size.

Note The "autoselect" process occurs only if no specific tray is requested for the job. If a specific tray

is requested, the job prints from the requested tray.

If paper is loaded in tray 1 and tray 1 is set TRAY 1 TYPE=ANY and TRAY 1 SIZE=ANY on the

Paper Handling menu, the printer will always pull paper from tray 1 first. See "Customizing

tray 1 operation" on page 47 for more information.

If the search fails, a message appears on the printer control panel display requesting that

you load the correct paper type/size. You can load that paper type/size, or you can override

the request by selecting a different type/size at the printer control panel.

If a tray runs out of paper during a print job, the printer automatically switches to any tray that

contains the same paper type/size.

The autoselect process changes somewhat if you customize tray 1 operation (as explained in

"Customizing tray 1 operation" on page 47) or set tray 1 for manual feed (as explained in
"Manually feeding paper from tray 1" on page 49). See if this works. Good luck !

I REPLACED MY INK CARTRIDGES. I WAS PROMPTED TO

Ignore the error and continue printing. The print job might still be acceptable even if the paper size and paper type settings are not an exact match.
  1. Press Enter on the control panel to clear the error message.
  2. Try the print job again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.
Use the HP product software, also known as the printer driver, to change the print settings for your paper size and type depending on your version of Microsoft Word.
    1. In Microsoft Word, click File , and then click Print .
    2. Make sure that your HP product is in the Name drop-down list box, and then clickProperties .
    3. Click the Features tab, or the Paper/Quality tab.
    4. Select a paper size from the Size drop-down list.If the required paper size is not in the drop-down list, follow these steps to create a custom paper size.
      1. Select Custom from the drop-down list.
      2. In the Custom Paper Size dialog box, type a name for the new custom size.
      3. In the Width and Height boxes, type the dimensions.
      4. Select the unit of measurement, and then click Save .
      5. Click OK to close the Custom Paper Size dialog box, and then click OKagain to close the Properties dialog box. NOTE: You must exit the Properties dialog box to apply your changes.
      6. Open the Properties dialog box again, and then select the new custom size from the Size drop-down list.
    5. Select the paper type.
      1. In the Paper Type or Type is drop-down list, click More .
      2. Click the desired paper type, and then click OK .
    6. Select the paper source from the Paper Source drop-down list.
    7. Change any other settings, and then click OK to close the Properties dialog box.
    8. Try the print job again.
Paper mismatch errors occur because the printer scans the width of the paper before printing. If the paper size setting in the printer driver does not match the paper actually loaded in the printer, the printer reports a 'Paper Mismatch' or 'Paper too Narrow ' error. The error message might also display when you load the correct paper, just reinstall the printer driver if above procedure does not helps. Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

HP LaserJet 9040mfp All-In-One... Problem

You first need to run a configuratin page from the infromation menu on the printer. It will tell you what size and type paper the printer thinks is in tray 2. If that does not match what is actually in the tray (size) then you may have a issue with the paper size switches on the right inside cavity of the paper tray. If the switches, there is a samll pca board behind the black cover with the 3 metal springs. That board is the same for both trays 2 and 3 so you could switch the boards to see if that is the issue. It could also be as simple as the paper tray bar not aligned correctly and the easy way is to switch trays 2 and 3 and see what happens. The type setting which is inputed at the printer if not matching the job will cause the paper to not be drawn unless that type is asked for. Example if someone changed the type to preprinted and you do not ask for preprinted it will never draw from that tray. Hope this helps.

If tray 2 & 3 have same size/type, will pull paper from 3 until empty. Make sure that the tray selection (or paper type) in the printer driver or software application is set correctly. (The printer driver and software application settings override the printer control panel settings.)
