It copes in color but not black & white

Guess your black cartridge is not working; it's empty or clogged.. Take it out and go to some ink filler service where they have an ultrasound unclogger ; they can verify status of the head.and refill it, if that's the problem..
If problem is clogging, might be too late because sometimes if you leave your printes head in use, migh not be possible to repair it.
If it is damaged, no way, you must buy a new one.

while printer is on, yank out power cord, wait 1 minute , and plug back in , printer will print now with no candy striping

replace all color cartridges with black toner
if ink fill your color cartridge with black ink using a refill kit
and just buy a new color cart and keep it asside in a zip lock untill you need color

the fuser needs to be checked. you need a tech

Make sure both S-video (black round connector) and Composite video (yellow connector) are connected to video outputs not inputs. It can also be the S-video is disconected, that will give you a black and white picture. FR

Hey :), I'd be happy to help. To make a copy you must lift the lid and lay down the item you want copied. And then on the side of the printer you will see a line of buttons , to copy the item you want,you have to let the printer know if you want the copy to be in black and white or color .To let the printer know of you want the copy to be in black and white or color, you have to select/press between the black ( black and white ) button in the line of buttons or the color button. Once you press wither of these buttons/options , the printer will automatically start the coping process. thanks! I hope this helps :)

I only want to use this and print in black and white...can i override the so i can just use it without the color inks

try this

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
