normally you go to printer settings and look for where it says page quality. make sure the page quality is set to normal or fine. this will make it black. if it is on a setting lower than this it will cause the printed document to appear grey.
it's not a pritner problem. u need to chek word font's and font's colour setting but it's depand witch version u used and if every print are printed on faint grey colour yr refill cartige has a problem.. also do one thing go to pritnter setting do as grayscale. if u have any quary tell me..
We've seen this problem in our shop. The document is "timing out" and the gap is where it restarts. You have to set the print manager to wait to print until the document is finished processing. Any large print will do the same thing. Try "pausing" the printer on your computer, then execute the "print" command in Photoshop, then go back to the printer control panel and "un-pausing" the printer.
I find the best way to clean the heads is buy some cleaning cartridges as they have cleaning fluid in them and use them to clean it will take about 10 or more times to clean the heads then put the color ones back in and try again.
Just keep putting it on clean the head don't do a print out till at lest you have cleaned 10 or more times.
i think the inside printer have dirt or obstacles that blocken the cartridges while printing.
try to clean manually the printer by using powerful air blower, repeatedly.
Your post "...it prints very faint horizontal lines in color..." is indicative that indeed your color printheads are clogged and would need repetitive deep head cleaning. This is of course would require that you keep on cleaning until such time as the faint color lines have turned to legible print.
