could be your retractable cord assembly's contacts..

push the power on while pulling out the cord. see if it tries to start.

Your machine is clogged ... probably in the hose.

ASSURE the air path is clear and the filters are clean before yhou proceed.

Model S718 doesn't come up as a good model number. What did you want to know about a red light?

Will it power up without the hose attached? If it does then you have a clogged hose. If not, there is a circuit board by the motor that may be bad.
