Question about Omnitech 12 Sheet Cross Cut Shredder

1 Answer

We bought this shredder in January and it no longer seems to shred.

The motor is running (so it isn't due to overheating) but it won't actually grab the paper. I usually shred 8 or fewer pages. Please help

Drive mech depending on type it may either be a drive belt or adjustment of mech

Omnitech wont shred papers.

Sounds like its jammed? Have a really close look for staples, paperclips etc stuck in the drive gears or blades

Machine says it's FULL, and won't shred, but it isn't/

there is a sensor that detects when the basket is full, if you remove the basket, look up for the sensor that would point down into the basket. it is probably dirty, clean off sensor.

hope this helps

My shredder won't shred paper. It sounds like something is stuck / locked. I removed any paper shred and still nothing.

IF you've had that shredder for any longer than 4 years its about time to trash it. And some models of shredders actually can't shred anything thicker than normal notebook paper, even after about a year. Make sure you haven't

Shredder will not start when paper is inserted. switch is on auto. This happened after a long session of shredding

Two possible problems;
  1. Teeth underneath lid are jammed; sometimes (especially after a long session) although the papers go through, debris builds up and can get caught in the teeth; to clear unplug and with tweezers or a tina flathead screwdriver, pull out shreds of paper still caught
  2. Motor is overheated; once cool, try it again (move switch to reverse to see if motor is still working). If motor is working, see Step 1 for a jam; some jams can be cleared by running it in reverse. Royal doesn't recommend "long" shredding sessions. My unit recommends sessions of 20 pages or less. If you try to overwork the shredder, it will overheat and in some cases, fry the motor.
I hope this helps answer your problem. Best of luck!

My paper shredder stopped working

First things First...UNPLUG THE UNIT. It sounds like it has been fed too many pages at one time. You may also want to dump any shredded paper so there is plenty of room for the shredder blades to pull in the paper. If the paper catcher is too full the blades can grab shreds from the bottom and stop the blades movement. Just be careful. Shredders can be dangerous.

It stopped working after a big shred. I suspect an overheat. How do I reset it?

it's overheated, after you turn on the shredder, is it working?
if not, that means your shredder's motor is death.
need to buy a new shredder.

Shredding no more

if the unit is pulling paper thru but not shredding your cutters have separated for some reason. If not pulling paper thru but machine is running you probally have a broken gear causing cutters to no longer turn you may hear a clunking or grinding noise or gear may be stripped if shredder sounds like it is spinning freely. Contact manufacturer for parts availability.
