Question about Apple iPod nano

IPod will not TURN OFF

It's official... my iPod Nano, 1Gen, will not turn off at all. Previously, I had the problem where only sometimes it wouldn't turn off, now it's officially always on, draining the battery even when not in use. Of course, it does charge when I put it on my charger and syncing is working just fine.

Any ideas?

There are at least two diff probs here. 1) Ipod is hung and won't respond to turn off signal (pressing bottom of wheel) at all--stays lit no matter how long you press. This happens sometimes when, for example, your ipod is connected to a docking device and you turn it off while pressing bottom of wheel wheel - then you immediately unplug it the ipod, which lights it up again -- sometimes it will won't then respnod to a a shut off signal by pressing bottom of wheel. This prob has been recurring on opds for years and can be fixed with a reset.

    2) Ipod turns off for half a second and comes right back on --when you press the bottom of the wheel, the ipod turns off for about a half second or so and lights right back up again. This prob has an unknown cause and is not fixed by a reset. If you restore, the prob will be fixed UNTIL you reload you music files onto the Ipod - then the prob automatically returns. Some suspect this prob has to do with a file problem and ipod's inability to appropriately deal with the file problem.

My IPod has the same issue. Went to the "genius bar" at the store and he said he had no idea. I could fix it for $99 or get a new one for $149. Doing neither and looking into a Zune.

Press and hold both the menu and center buttons until the screen goes black. Then release. It should fix this freeze up.

There are several reasons why your iPod Nano may not turn on or awake out of its "Sleep Mode." This can be extremely irritating if you wish to use your iPod Nano, but the device is constantly malfunctioning. You may not need to take your iPod Nano in to be repaired if the player doesn't turn on as normal. There are a variety of different fixes that you can attempt as a way to get the Nano to turn on.

Flip the iPod Nano's "Hold" switch to "OFF." The iPod Nano cannot be turn on if the switch is set to "ON." Reset the iPod Nano. Move the "Hold" switch to "ON" and then "OFF." Then, press down the "Select" and "Menu" buttons on the Nano. Hold those buttons for about eight seconds. The Apple logo will then become visible on the iPod Nano. Once this occurs, try turning the iPod Nano on once again. Connect the iPod Nano to an iPod charger or a computer that is turned on via the iPod Nano's USB cord. Charge the Nano for at least 30 minutes. Then, try to turn the Nano on. Update the iPod Nano's software. Connect the Nano to your computer via the player's USB cable. Open iTunes, and click the iPod Nano's name on the left part of iTunes. Click the "Summary" option at the top of iTunes. Then, click on the "Check for Updates" button that's positioned in the middle of iTunes. Follow the instructions that appear inside iTunes in order to install the updates on the Nano.

Won't turn on

Is your iPod fully charged? Sometimes the batteries become so depleted of charge that an accessory charger won't turn it on.

-Try plugging it in to your computer or a wall charger for a while, time will vary but it may turn on.

-If it is not turning on your computer will never recognize it, thus you won't be able to do a restore with iTunes.

-Try a hard restart as well this could help you.

What should i do to turn hold off after opening up ipod nano 1gen

HI,

The "hold" switch is located at the top of the iPod nano.

TO TURN THE HOLD ON:
Slide the hold switch to the on position when you put the iPod away. This won’t accidentally wake from sleep when a button is pushed and drain its power.

TO TURN THE HOLD Off:
To start using your iPod again, just slide the hold switch into the other position and click a button to start it up again.

This will fix the issue,

Thank you,

Nano goes blank

Reboot your Ipod by holding down on the center button while holding down on the menu button.

This should reboot your IPod.

If that doesn't work plug your Ipod into Itunes and restore your software back to factory settings. Make sure that battery if fully charged as well.

Ipod won't turn on

Try to turn on your ipod by holding the center button and the menu button both at the same time for about 6-10 seconds. Sometimes the hard drive on the ipod likes to freeze and just needs to be reset.
