Need original blower motor and cap. specs for Ruud Deluxe 90+

My blower motor has locked up and I need to replace it but it appears to have been replaced once before with less than original equipment motor. I need to know what the original blower motor and capacitor specs are in order to correctly replace.

The motor specs can change from time to time depending on what the manufacturer has in mind.

If it has locked up check first and make sure the squirrel cage fan has not moved and is binding on the housing.

If it is clear to turn and wont turn,, the bearings must be bad, and this is probably NOT a problem with the motor being "wrong". Its just the way things are made.

Contact a RUUD distributor for the specs you request.

My Ruud Achiever 90 Plus MDL: UGRA-09EZAJS is 17 years old. Runs fine but wonder if I should replace the blower motor and go to a variable speed motor

The variable speed DC motors you describe do use less power but cost 14 times more too, not worth it especially with you motor running!

Wiring a retrofit soft start blower into a Ruud 5T/100k gas pack

Chances are, you've smoked the motor. You basically put 120 volts across the speed windings of the motor when you did this.

What you need to do is, with the new motor, you will have neutral, and speed 1, speed 2, speed 3, etc. Hook one of the original black wires to neutral (it would be best to trace which of the two black wires is connected to neutral, and connect this one.).

Black on the new motor is probably High speed, red is probably low, orange is medium speed. Hook the remaining black wire to one of these, and no more than one of these, or you will smoke the motor again.

Attach a wire cap and/or electrical tape to the remaining wires to insulate them from contacting anything else.

Ruud 90 deluxe plus, in the last week blower motor noiser

George, make sure the belt is not loose flapping around making all that noise.

Not hard to change if you can get one from an hvac friend, they won"t sell to homeowners normally.
