I can not open my WD passport (1000 GB) external drive

Hello there,

recently I bought a WD passport external drive ( 1000 GB) it was working pretty well, but I dont know what happend to it, the problem is I can not open it. It is listed in my computer's list but when I click on it, it says '' it is not formated , do you want to format it now'' . there are my important files in it and I dont want to format it. How can I fix the problem. ( when I click on it the only message I get is '' it is not formated , do you want to format it now''). I tried to open it in my friend's computer but still had the same problem.

Thanks,

You can't open it because this is a cause of viruses in your hardrive and your drive is infected i have this problem 2 weeks ago and fix it. open it from my computer right click go to manage and go to disk management open your drive from your WD. delete unrecognize files and hidden files.

I have a WD Passport External Drive. (WD1600ME-01) I know it works but all the wires I have that fits the Drive don't seem to work. When I connect the wires, I can hear the Drive go on and shortly aft

You may first want to try disconnecting any other USB devices, to guarantee that the drive is the only power-drawing device. Drives typically need all 500 mA that a USB port normally provides.

Cables do wear out, especially those handled often. Mini-USB cables are pretty common and can easily be replaced.

WD 250 GB external hard drive is not being detected by system

Hi !

First check if your WD is running (spinning), no matter if the blue light is on. Can you hear it close with your ear, or feel vibrations on your hand when it starts.

If it runs, then check/replace the USB cable you are using with another.
Check the Power supply if it gives necessary power.

If you are familliar with disassembling/assembling, then open and remove the HDD from the box and try to connect the disc directly to your PC (using another HDD Data/Power cables).

If it runs, and you can acces it, then something is wrong with the Box.

If it doesn't, then the HDD is broken or damaged.

Please note that if your device is under warranty, DO NOT open the box ! Contact your seller for service/replacement instructions.

Regards.
