I have a Samsung R150 DVD recorder. While still under guarantee I had persistent problems with freezing and 'system errors'. I sent it in for repairs to a Samsung accredited place, and the 'loader' was replaced (took over 3 weeks). The problem recurred (it was by then just out of guarantee, but the repair had a 3-month guarantee)so I took it back in. Apparently the 'loader' has been replaced again (it took a week this time), but I still sometimes get a 'system error'. Also, I have never been able to play DVDs recorded on my machine from TV on other DVD players.
Go to menu, select formate, formate disk in V mode not VR.when finished recording finalize disk. you can then play on any dvd player.

Hi all,
I've been having the same 'freezing" problem for almost one year here in Brazil.
About half hour working and the problem appears.
Today I removed the player cover and turn it on.
After 4 hour working, no stop !
Probably the problem is the excessive heating inside the equipment !

You need to finalise the DVDR disk (from DVD recorder) in order for it play in any DVD player or PC.
If you still getting the system error theres not much you can do about it..you better off buying another recorder. I recommend Sony or Panasonic.

Sorry for the late reply i have been very busy lately with life stuff.
You mention Verbatim DVD-RW , these are quality disk but unfortunately not all standalone DVD players will play them.
In addition DVD-VR format is not DVD-Video compliant this would explain why it wont play in your DVD player but may work some other players.
I recommend you use normal blank DVD-R and to burn as DVD Video not VR.
If you havent already solved your problem, please give this a go and let me know how you get on..good luck!
I tried a little search on the net to find out which brand of disks your Samsung prefers unfortunately i have'nt found any useful information yet. If you have the manual please check it.
Sometimes DVD recorders can be fussy about the brand and type of disks for e.g my old Panasonic doesnt like Tuffdisc but can record on most other brands.
In meantime try DVD-R and burn as DVD Video compliant.
All the best.
In theory recording on a DVD-RW disk in DVD-VR format should work.. its just not compatible in all players. I take it you want to edit the video, title, chapter on disk and this is why youve chosen this format.
I dont have a solution for this at present but it still worth checking how Samsung deals with normal DVD-R in DVD Video compliant format.

Thanks for replying.
I recorded something today and finalised the disc as you suggested (which I hadn't been doing) but it still wouldn't play on another machine (in fact I tried two other DVD players). I'm using Verbatim DVD-RW re-recordable discs which are formatted DVD-VR (the format Samsung says is the right one). Am I using the wrong discs and/or the wrong format?
I would like to get rid of this machine, but as the discs I have recorded won't play on another player, I'm putting up with the freezing and errors for now.
Thanks so much. I'll get different discs and try them as you suggest. Interestingly, when I called the local Samsung helpline and asked them how to record DVDs that could be played on other machines, they told me to burn them as DVD-VR, and they never mentioned finalizing.
I don't necessarily want to do anything to the DVDs I record except simply play them back at a later stage for myself - or for members of my family who don't have satellite (cable) TV or have missed a favourite programme. We haven't yet been able to see DVDs recorded on my machine on anyone else's player. Never had this problem with the good old VCR!
