Lubricate each end of the roller brush with motor oil. Bearings inside the roller brush need lubrication for the brush to turn easily. Remove any pieces of thread that have wrapped around the roller brush. If it does not spin after doing the above steps, then either the belt is slipping or the bearings are severely damaged in the roller brush. Then you need either a smaller belt or a new roller brush.

SOURCE: M1300 i dirt devil brushes wont roll

the brush roller itself has crud jammed in it. it is not the belt. the smell however - is the belt being burnt as the small metal axle tries to turn the who unit - but the belt wont move - so the small axle spins and burns into the belt. this can burn the belt and melt it and can also stress the motor which is the real pricey repair and not worth it.

pop the roller out of the bottom and hold the very end 'cap' - now spin the roller with your hand - if it doesn't spin with next to no effort - there are probably hairs and threads inside that gumming it up so it wont spin. this is NOT referring to the outside of the roller which can be the issue - untangle any pet or human hairs - carpet strings etc etc - this can solve the issues as well. but regarding the inside turning swivel on the brushroll - some models the end caps come off - some they do not. i put a razor on the sides and cut up some hairs and strings till it was spinning again by hand but it was still not enough to allow the brush to spin on all settings. eventually i was forced to buy a new roller (i have jaguar upright - old model m085830t) - hope this helps -

a few more words of advice - when you buy a vac - once a month or so flip it over and cut out long hairs - threads - and strings - your vac will last forever - if you do this - if it smokes - turn it off right away parts are burning lol

I took the roller brush off to clean it,replaced it now it will only spin in the recline position.l put it in the vacuum position and it stops. I have a DC 14 animal.

I'm not sure what you mean by recline and vacuum positions. Normally when the handle is in the upright position to use the tools and hose the brush roll does not turn. When you recline the handle into the floor vacuuming position the brush spins. If you were able to remove the brushroll an reinstall it the brush roll belt is likely very stretched out because otherwise it is very difficult to put the bush roll back in with out using the belt change tool. This can cause the brushroll to spin but stop spinning when when it hits the carpet because he belt is too loose. Belts must be very tight to spin the brush roll in he carpet. There is also another belt that you can't see under the clutch cover. It becomes stretched out also. The belts need to be replace every few years as do any stretch belts. The hard part about changing belts on your model is they are inside the clutch, it's easier to replace the whole clutch. If you have any questions or need any of the parts or belt change tool please email me at [email protected]

Drive brush roller spinning in reverse, not picking up

The belt on an 8925 should not have any twist. If it has been twisted the brushroll will go backwards. Install a new belt and make sure it will spin freely with no twist in the belt.

Hoover Windtunnel model U6485200B troubleshooting brush not spinning

Hi! The brush-roll feature needs to be engaged for the belt to tighten, so when checking the belt it will appear to be loose. Be sure you have replaced both belts on the vacuum with genuine Hoover parts. This unit takes belt 38528034 and 38528035. Also, make sure the vacuum is on carpet mode. Follow the link to view the instruction manual which provides instructions and illustrations on changing the belt to be sure it is assembled properly.

Hi,dyson dc25 overdrive,my brusher's wont go round,i have cleaned the brusher's and filter, loads of suction.the belt is intact and the roller move's feely by hand, could it be the switch

Hi Stephen,

I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with your DC25 Overdrive. If the brush bar won't rotate, and you've already checked the cleaner head is free of obstructions, it's likely it just needs resetting.

You might like to take a look at the video below to make sure everything is correct with the machine. Once you've done this, if you turn the machine on, recline it into the vacuuming position, then press the silver brush control switch twice, this should reset the brush bar.

Brush does not spin

Here's a parts diagram for the machine. It took me a bit to find it. Dyson doesn't want to give any kind of parts diagrams or such that I could find. Anyway, I'd say your drive belt is probably either broken or slipping. More than likely the first one. Just make sure that the Brush bar isn't all jambed up with hair and whatnot. Which you've probably already done, but I fixed my neighbors about a year ago, and her's was so clogged up that it would barely turn with the belt intact.
The diagram will also give you a good idea of how they go together and what parts will come off of what. Hope this helps.

Where is the belt located on my hoover steam shampoer

There is probably not a belt. The brushes on the carpet cleaner head and attachments work from air and there is a roller bearing deep inside that will wear out and the brushes won't turn. I've found no way to fix this. I consider it a design defect.

Change the belt

Hi There,

Here's how you can replace the belt on your Eureka SmartVac 4870. I have taken pictures of the repair to help you better with this.

Here's what you'll need in order to complete this repair:

- Eureka Style R Extended Life Replacement Belt, Part 61110
- Eureka SmartVac Model 4870 Roller Brush Assembly, Part 61520 (Only if the brush no longer spins, or the brushes are worn out)
- Phillips head screw driver

Step 1. Turn the vacuum upside down so that the brush roller is facing upwards. Unscrew the three screws that I've highlighted in red.

Step 2. Remove the bottom plate after unscrew the three red highlighted screws. Once you remove the bottom plate, you'll have full access to the roller brush and belt area. Remove the roller brush by pulling straight up on the roller brush itself. Discard old belt, and test roller brush to ensure that it spins freely by holding the very end of each side, also called the bearing caps with just your finger tips. Try spinning the brush with your thumbs. The brush should spin several times around with each spin. If you notice the brush doesn't spin at all, or if you feel some resistance when you spin the brush, this means that your bearings are either gone, or will be soon. It may be time to consider a new roller brush at this time.

Step 3. Remove the new Eureka Style R belt from the packaging, and wrap one end around the the metal pin, on the opposite side of the roller brush. This pin is actually the motor shaft that spins the belt, which spins the brush.

Step 4. Wrap the other end of the belt through the side of the roller brush that has the pulley, and use the roller brush to stretch the brush roll back into the agitator housing. Make sure the end caps fit in the housing correctly by making sure there are no gaps between the roller brush housing and the end caps of the roller brush.

010b671.jpg

Step 5. After reinstalling the roller brush back into the housing with the belt attached, pull the belt forwards towards the brush. The brush should spin when you do this. Make sure that the belt is not pinched underneath of the roller brush or this will cause the belt to break immediately when you turn the vacuum back on.

Step 6. Reinstall the bottom plate, making sure that the little notches on the front end of the bottom plate tucked underneath of the reverse notches on the bottom housing of the vacuum cleaner. Tighten all 3 screws back into the bottom plate. Make sure the vacuum is set to carpet mode, and turn the vacuum on.

If you have any questions about this repair, or if you notice that the roller brush stops when the brushes hit the carpeting, please just use the clarification request form here on the Fixya repair page. I will then be happy to walk you through a little more advanced repair of replacing the clutch in the Eureka SmartVac that controls the rug/floor switch. Most of the time though the belt will be all the vacuum needs.

I hope that this was helpful information to you. If this helped you, please be so kind and rate the repair as helpful by clicking on the thumbs up icons in the top corner of this repair.

Thank you very much,

Chris J.

Eureka Boss - Belt is not broke but brush will not turn. I have already turned it over - checked belt - and pushed the reset button.

The belt may look fine but they can still be stretched or worn and it won' turn the brush. Try changing the belt and see what it does. You can get Eureka belts here:

Roller brush won't spin (bissel 6390/3910 series)

I just fixed mine. It took me all of 10 minutes. Pull the brush out. Stand the brush on end on the edge of your study work bench/table top. while holding the brush vertical( on end) take a small phillips screwdriver and tap using a hammer on the metal pin you see in the middle of the brush. Keep tamping and the whole assembly will come apart. What you will have then is a long metal shaft, 2 bearings(they are acutally skateboard wheel bearings same number same make). Clean the gobbed up hair with a razor blade and then reassemble by tapping back together. The bearing wont be worn out because they are way too tough for a vaccum. We used ride down hills on them! a ten minute fix wow and you wont have to drive to vacuum shop and spend $$ and time
