There is a valve on the unit that is connected to the motor, this valve is adjustable. Look for the cover housing where the cord goes into a box that is mounted on the tank.. Some models have a lever that turns the unit on and off there. Take the cover off and see if any parts are loose. If not then there should be a screw that you can adjust.

POP OFF VAVLE ON HEAD KEEPS POPPING UP

The over-pressure relief valve may be defective if the valve is opening before the desired tank pressure is reached. If not, then the shut-off pressure adjustment (if there is one) may be set wrong. You'll need to find out from the manufacturer exactly what static tank pressure the compressor is designed to provide and then determine if it is working correctly. If so, then the relief valve might be defective. DO NOT attempt to defeat the relief valve under any circumstances - it can result in compressor damage or a dangerous tank failure.

Compressor wont shut off

Check your wiring, Line to line, load to load. Line is power coming in, load is to the motor. Check for packing that should have been removed. Inspect the pressure switch contacts to make sure they open at desired psi and adjust as necessary. A nut or screw pushing on a spring adjusts tank psi. Loose unloaded spring is less pressure, tight compressed spring is more pressure before cut off..

Replaced pressure switch now it wont shut off

Hi dijulio28
You will have to adjust the setting so it will shut off.
There should have been instructions that came with the pressure switch that will tell you how to adjust the high level shut off.
You will have to remove the plastic cap, and then you will find the adjustment screws/nuts inside. Some are marked H/L...if yours is, then adjust the H till it acheives the shut off pressure desired to shut the compressor down at the desired pressure.
Go to the following webpage and learn how to adjust your pressure switch.

A porter cable 135 psi 60 gallon upright

If the motor doesn't shut off at the desired pressure then your pressure switch is either set too high or is broken/stuck. The pressure leak at 150 psi is the safety valve doing its job opening when the pressure gets to an unsafe level in the tank.

Put new switch on compressor and now wont shut off.

the regulator is failing to do its job. make sure you have it set properly. if you did, you will likely need a new one. also remember to drain the compressor every month to prevent rust from moisture build up in the tank. good luck.

This is a stab in the dark.....but have you emptied the condensation out of the tank? It may reach max pressure....but have little air compressed inside the tanks. Just a guess.

Pump spinning but not getting up to speed then shuts off

You have a pressurized system using a pressure tank. This is a case of an air logged pressure tank. Meaning there is more air than water in the pressure tank. The pressure tank must hold 2/3 water and 1/3 air of its total volume. Installed at the tank is the air volume control to take care of this proportion. Should the air volume control malfunction or becomes defective, the air-water ratio is affected. And then,
the pressure tank becomes either air logged or water
logged.
SOLUTION:
1. Shut the power off, and open the discharge line
gate valve to flush the water in the pipe lines.
2. Open the drain plug of the pressure tank to empty
all the water at the pressure tank.
3. Close the drain plug, and put the power on.
4. Start the pump, and set the flow control valve 1/4
open.
5. The pump will normally run.

How do make air compressor shut off at your desired air pressure

You compressor has a pilot valve that controls the tank pressure and the speed of the engine. Locate the brass pilot valve, (It has a flip lever that unloads the compressor) you will notice that it has two locking nuts that allow for adjustment when loosened. Loosen the small lock nut and turn the upper-most part of the pilot valve out to reduce pressure, in to increase pressure. Hope this helps, enjoy.

My porter cable compressor isn't shutting off

Dear JG,
The probably is probably the pressure regulator switch. It's the box the 110 vac wires come from the outlet and go into. Reset the switch or replace it. Note! overfilling an air pressure tank is extremely Dangerous. The tank, fittings, compressor head and or related parts may explode resulting in property damage as well as serious and potentially fatal personal injury.
Good luck,
