These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. SOURCE: Sony Trinitron Wega kv-36fs120 wont turn on, standby/timer LED flashes 9 times.
I have your service manual but I can't find any reference to 9 flashes, are you sure it is 9 with out a pause?

SOURCE: STANDBY LIGH BLINKING 9 times...
I have a Sony SRS BBE Trinitron (WEGA). The last few days when I tried to turn it on using the remote the Red Light would go on but the TV did not turn on. I would have to press the power button again to turn it on.. I tought the remote battery was just low.
Today when I tried to turn it on nothing is happening and the Red Light is blinking 9 times ??? I tried to unplug it and try it again, still does the same thing ???
We need help...

HI, this is the result of an unstable power sector in this unit. the fly back is malfunctioning and, you will need to replace it asap. i will list the part number below and a link to a site as well. you can purchase this part on-line if you wish.

SOURCE: standby lighy blinks tv won't turn on
error code 4 is vertical deflecton failure . replace the vertical deflection ic. and the electrolytic capacitors in the vertical circuit. Or if you are lucky just resolder the vetical IC and resolder th horizontal section too.

Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.
