Recording from camcorder problems

UGH This thing is driving me nuts! I have everything set up properly.....as far as I know. The camcorder (Hi-8) plays it on the TV just fine, but when I hit the Record button, it goes to an all black/gray screen. I have audio still, just can't see anything. Tried 1 disc, and it recorded the same black/gray screen. These are 8x -R discs. I have belly dancers hollering at me...help!!

Does the unit display what it's pointed at on its display screen or on the viewfinder? if the unit will play a disk but not record the problem may be in the lense or the video sensor. Check if the autofocus operates by running your hand across the front of the unit. if the autofocus knob or lever doesn't turn it may be the power. otherwise it may not operate with -R but only with +R disks?

If video head got clogged then camcorder wont read tape in playback so result comes as blue screen.

Distorted crackling Sound Recording

Hi this is a fault alot of people have it usually starts to happen when you have been recording and then a loud noise has happened this then damages the mic on the camcorders.
The problem you might have is going to be getting a new mic fitted as alot of the newer camcorders they dont sell replacement parts unless its a top of the range one but if the parts are not available then their is no way of repairng it the bets thing to try is look in the phone book or online for a camera repair shop or even ring a camera shop up and ask them if their are parts available for your camcorder let me know if you need further assistance

Hi! Looks like that the camera has a system crash. I strongly suggest that you have it looked at by a qualified technician to check the circuit board of the camera. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

I get an error message that says

It means that the DVD Recorder thinks that the DV or Digital 8 camcorder is not connected to the iLink / Firewire connector. Check you have everything connected properly or if you want to record a different way there may be a memory option that allows you to change the way the unit is expecting to receive a signal. The DV/D8 just means DV or Digital8 which are 2 standards in video recording with different types of tape. The specific interface here is an iLink interface specific to Sony to allow control of the recording interface remotely. It is also possible that your iLink or firewire connected device is not compatible with this Sony model....

Strange problem in dcr trv 140 sony camcorder.

Did you turn the exposure lock on? That would lock the iris so that it will not adjust for changes in lighting.

I can't start recording.

# You may not have turned on the camcorder to record properly. For camcorders that feature both Automatic and Manual recording, make sure you press in the LOCK button while setting the POWER switch to the desired setting, either "A" (Automatic) or "M" (Manual) record mode. # Automatic recording places the camcorder into Auto Shot™ mode, while Manual recording mode allows you to control many of the camcorder's special features, including accessing the menus and setting the clock. # For many other camcorders, make sure the CAMERA/OFF/VCR switch is set to CAMERA. Make sure the Erase Protection tab is in the position that allows recording. If not, slide the tab. Some tapes have removable tabs. If the tab has been removed, simply cover the hole with adhesive tape or use another tape.
