I have had a LiteOn LVW-5026 DVD recorder for 5 years or so and have not had any problems till now. I bought some blank Verbatim DVD+RW discs but found the recorder would not recognise them (ie, prepare disc for copy). I decided to buy my usual Phillips DVD+RW's again but now the recorder does not seem to recognise these either! It does however, recognise discs that have already got recordings on.

it maybe the spindle motor that rotates the disc thats why there is no information read by the laser or the laser itself is the problem. if it is only the motor it can be replace but the laser it should be compatible or the same model. one simple thing to do open and try to clean the optical lens by a cotton buds gently rub around the lens and close and try.

I had the same problem, I had to open up the covers (including the one covering the lens) and clean the lens with a soft cloth. Please be very careful while cleaning the lens since it is very delicate and any damage would permanently disable read/writes.
