Cd rom drive does not work! NEEDS ASSISTANCE!

Have a look at your CD/DVD drive and you will see a small pin hole that about the size of a needle. You can take a straightened paperclip and push it in there to open the CD dirve manualy. After you've removed it, try another CD that you know is working and see if you have the same problem. If this CD also get stuck in there then we know the CD/DVD ROM may be faulty.

Is this a Dell Laptop or Desktop?
Can you open and close the Drive with or without anything inside it?
Can you hear any noise coming from CD/DVD ROM when you insert a CD?
What Happens when you insert any other CDs or DVDs that you know is working fine?

When you open your MY Computer/Computer in the Start Menu, Can you see the drive there, or is it not showing the CD dirve there at all?
If the you are 100% sure this is not a power issue, then it might be the CD/DVD driver that needs to be re-installed.

If those other discs are working in other cdrom drives then you could have a dirty cdrom drive, a laser failure, or it could be a firmware problem in that drive. Check the mfr's website for any firmware updates first. If that should fail, then you will need to replace the drive.

What's happening inside is, you have a laser inside that bounces a beam off the disc and receives the beam into a buffer. The beam scans for and detects "Pits" and "plateaus" on the surface of the disc (it's kinda like morse code on a plastic disc.) and the dots and dashes reflect into the buffer.

If you cannot read a disc, that means the laser is having trouble with either:
1. emitting the beam,
2. targeting the tracks where the pits and plateaus are or
3. receiving the beam into its buffer

SOMETIMES a burned disc is harder to read by a standard reader, but not often. Most times it is a sign of dirt on the buffer receiver, dirt on the lens, or inability to scan the tracks. Try using a cdrom lens cleaner, and update the drive firmware. if that doesnt help you, you need a new drive.

Most likely your CD-Rom either needs to be cleaned or replaced. Try running a regular CD player cleaning disc in the ROM. If this doesn't get it working correctly, then you will have to replace the CD-ROM or buy an external ROM that hooks up with a USB cable.

you need a new disk drive it has went failty and needs to be replaced you can get a used one from ebay for 6 pouind if its i.d.e. or sata is 8 to 10 pounds

First off. Your hard drive cannot read CD's. Your CD-ROM is not reading CD's. Well a few things can be wrong there. 1. The CD-ROM is dead 2. The drivers for the CD-ROM needs updating 3. The CD that you are trying to read is curropt or damaged.
Start checking to eliminate and let me know.

check out internal wiring connection of CD ROM.the loose connection may create problem.
if connections are proper then check whether ur CD ROM working properly or not by connecting to another cpu.

i hv one master soln on it.but u hv to do it very carefully. 1st start pc then take a sharp thin stick & push it softly in lower small space of CD ROM & pull out it gently.
but it only possible if u put the cd properly in CD ROM.
so try it ,it defntly works.

you can try two solutions
1) go to device manager and uninstall the primary and secondary ide controller under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and than restart the system and than chk it if that works out
2 ) if the first option doesnt work try to update the firmware of the drive

ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds
in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.
