for the life of me i can not find Creative in my programs list
i also tried to find it in file search
is there another way to get to the sound mixer?

    thank you for your help

  • tim57 Nov 14, 2007

    Hi Jim

I did as you requested and found the following under Audio:

    'Sound Playback'
    AC'97 Sound Card

    'Sound Recording'
    AC'97 Sound Card

    'MIDI Music Playback'
    Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth

each one only had one choice, ie: AC'97 Sound Card
along with volume and advanced 'buttons' under them.

    the company's name is Roland GM/GS (R) 1996

    looks kind of ancient.....

    Thanks once again.

    hi Jim

man this is the third time i've typed this out (i keep loosing it for some reason)

Thank you for your continuing help.

i got to the 'device manager'
found the sound, video.....line, opened it
    found 'intel(R) 82801BA/BAM AC '97 audio controller - 2445'
but when i right click it i get:
    scan for hardware changes
i clicked on properties and a window came up with a few tabs
i clicked on the driver tab and clicked the 'update driver button'
then followed the directions for update wizard
this did not bring up the sound manager in the control panel.
none of the instructions you wrote out for me came up during this update.

    Thanks again,

Sounds like you have effects enabled ,
most likely is a SoundBlaster card?
If yes go to programs list look for Creative then look in branch off's for Surround mixer
Once you open surround mixer
click on >no effects< at top of list , then click OK

Right click on speaker icon by clock

    choose adjust audio properties

click the tab that says Audio at top

in voice playback, what is listed ?

    also click the down arrow

Is there more then 1 device listed?

If you find Sound Blaster is listed

then answer to your question is yes

    Start> run> type in SurMix.exe or SurMix2.exe

    Ok for the AC97

    Go to control panel

Look for sound effect manager "a blue square with yellow circlular bars around a large yellow dot"

    open it

click the effects tab at top

    now in environment part

click the down arrow and choose NONE

It should be every top one

    Click ok

    close all windows

    reboots pc

you should have a resolve to the bothersome effects friend

    Hope this helps

The sound is integrated onto the motherboard in this model, it isn't a separate card.

Seems like your graphic card is not supported. Its a older version. My first solution would be update your driver for your graphics card: or

If that doesn't fix it (which I don't think it will), you might just have to buy yourself a better graphics card and/or computer.
