Hello,

This is a fairly straight forward job and with the correct tools shouldn't be very difficult. Your biggest challenge will be that your key is broken off since the key is instrumental in pulling the old switch out. Please read my instructions below fully before attempting the job.

Tools Needed - Flat & Phillip Head Screw Driver, Small 90 Degree Hook, A Straight Pick & T30 Safety Torx
how do I remove the ignition barrel from the cylin - remove-ignition-barrel-from-cylinder-p1aus1s3fwe0ue1iewji4qiu-2-0.jpg
Removal
1. You need to get the plastic column cover off from around the steering wheel by removing the two phillips head screws on the bottom side.
2. The guard will come apart in two pieces by pulling with medium to hard pressure.
3. You might need to tilt the column downward to get the guard off if its too high.
4. Now your cylinder will be exposed and you should see the safety torx bolt on the side of your cylinder. (Remove The Torx)
5. There will be a small lock button on the top opposite side from the torx bolt, You will need to get your key switch into the on position then use the 90 degree pick to push the small safety lock button at the same time while pull outward. (See #6 Before Moving On)
6. Here is where you could run into problems since your key is broken. I suggest taking a small flat head screw driver and turn your key cylinder with slight pressure towards the on position while lightly pulling outwards as if you where pulling the key out. You must also push that small lock button with your 90 degree pick as explained above all in one motion. (The cylinder will not release if the key cannot be put into the on position)

Note
I suggest purchasing your new key cylinder and examining it very well before stating the job. You will see the small safety lock button and can understand how everything works before you start.

Re-Install
1. There is a small spring inside where the key switch slides back into the ignition (It sits in a center hole) If that came out you will need to use the straight pick to slide it back into position.
2. Take your new cylinder with the key in the on position (Just like It was during removal) and get it into the position to slide back in.
3. There will be a small foot shaped lever at the bottom of the cylinder housing you will need to press downward at the same time your sliding the new cylinder back into place.
4. Take not also to insure the safety lock button on top of the new cylinder slides past the housing into place
5. You might have to turn the key cylinder slightly back and forth a few time while applying pressure inwards.

It sounds like a ton of work but it is really a straight forward job once you do it. I just wanted to explain every small detail you could run into. You will see most of the things I explained above on your own as your going through the motion.

I hope this helps you out and if it works please rate my answer as helpful. Good Luck!

My key broke off in the ignition ,how do i remove the lock cylinder

Just an idea - could save a hell of a lot of time and money, but it depends how the key snapped if you can get the glue to stick...
you can put a tiny drop of crazy/super glue on the snapped part of the key, put it in the lock and make it so its perfectly touching the key, you can take the old bit of key out of the lock when it sticks and have a locksmith make you a new key from the two bits... cheaper than an ignition barrell.
use the tiniest speck of glue possible, use a hair or whisker to get a tiny drop of glue onto the key, put it in the same way round it snapped off so the two faces mate together properly - after 2 minutes pull out the key, if it is stuck give it a wiggle and still pull...
any glue that gets in the lock can be removed with nail varnish remover (acetone)
Dont know about how to remove the cylinder sorry...

Broken key in ignition

you can only push this detent pin in when ignition is in on position try to put key that snapped in and wriggle it around to try and turn ignition to on position so then you can remove barrel
if cant turn need to change whole assembly by un doing shear pin for clamp that holds whole assembly on steering column or do what some lock smiths do drill out old barrel slowly and going up in drill sizes until barrel comes out from housing without damaging housing

Key's snapped off inside ignition

Hi I would suggest you ring the Automobile association, and see whether one of their mobile mechanics can solve your problem. extracting a car key from the barrel may be more difficult than it appears. He, the mobile man may have done it before and have the right tools for the problem.
