I am trying to hook up my HP Laptop to my 47'' Insignia HDTV. When I plug in the display, my laptop displays only my desktop background and the tv says ''Mode Not Supported''. I am unable to even change any of the display settings as they are apparently showing on the TV but I cannot see them. When the TV is unplugged, I can't change any settings for it or anything. Can someone please help me!

Try changing your resolution for your laptop before you plug in your TV, the screen refresh rate of your monitor,(click the following, control panel, personalization, display settings, advanced, monitor Tab). Also what make/model video adaptor are you using, try updating the drivers, if this helps, please give a fixya rating. Thanks

I would like to hook up my Apple MacBook Pro to my Insignia TV (model NS-42D40SNA14) and would like to know which connector to use.

The easiest way to do that would be with the HDMI output. All you need to do that is a cable. Simply plug it into the laptop, then plug the other end into a free HDMI port on the back (or side) of your TV. Your laptop should automatically send a signal to the TV. You will need to change the TV to the proper HDMI input you plugged the laptop into. Once you do that, you should see your laptop desktop on the screen. Keep in mind, your TV can only display 1080p @ 60hz. So make sure your laptop is running that resolution for best results.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

What is the "digital output" for on my hd tv? it has a square cap and when I pull the cap off, it seems like all thats in the is a red light. what is it for? Side note- Im trying to hook my older hp...

I believe it is for Sony Devices Digital Output. You should be able to hook up your TV via High Def or using a Monitor cable. Your laptop should recognize this as a second monitor and you can choose to mirror or extend your display in control panel. You can also select your default audio output as the TV while its attached. Hope that helps.

Screen went blank after hooking computer to it

Let's cover the obvious.

The TV works fine with other inputs (cable TV), right?

The laptop is plugged into the VGA port on the TV and the input setting is set to "VGA", right? (or does toy computer have an HDMI port that you are using?)

Is it a laptop or a PC?

If it's a laptop and the TV is connected correctly and functioning otherwise, you need to turn on the remote display port of your laptop. It's a key sequence that toggles from laptop -> external -> both.

If it's a PC, it might be a signal incompatibility. Try different resolutions or refresh rates.

Good luck.

Connecting Laptop to LCD

VGA cable doesn't carry any audio: use your audio output from PC into TV audio Input (standard RCA).
You need to configure your Display Properties to manage TV screen to get an effective connection.
Either you have a generic Video Grafic Driver add on (I'm using Intel Graphic accelerator) on your display properties either you are using a specific (NVIDIA) driver for your video card.
To check go to CP/ Display, settings Tab and in advanced you should be able to check your choice (if you don't want to go to user manual.
You can also (in CP/ Display, Settings tab configure TV as a monitor and select your option accordingly: use screen resolution on screen # 2 not over native resolution of your VIZIO screen (1080 x 960?) and be sure to use all the parameters as TV can accept.
As soon as TV is configured as per resolution and refresh etc..
check the presentation function on your PC: it's normally a FN key showing a screen icon on key top (on my Acer travelmate is FN + F5) on aspire may be it's FN + F4.
This function key will circle between: PC mail screen -> External screen (as you configured on Display settings) -> both screen.

I'm trying to connect my toshiba satellite m115 to my insignia 19" lcd hdtv but its saying on the tv " mode not support " how do i fix that so i can watch my laptop on my tv?

Your toshiba m115, like my m105, is probably set at settings 1280X800. Once the LCD is hooked up to your laptop
  1. Right mouse click on empty spot on desktop
  2. left click on properties
  3. left click on settings tab
  4. left click on advanced
  5. left click on INTEL MEDIA GRAPHICS tab at top
  6. left click on graphics properties
  7. display settings
  8. change to 1024X768 or 800X600 (whatever lcd tv supports)
  9. click apply
  10. click on display devices
  11. make selection
  12. apply

I can't get my iLO-2600 to completely work as a monitor.

The TV will always show as screen number 2 because the laptop screen will be found first. I use mine as a monitor for my Desktop.. However, for the picture to show what your laptop does you have to clone your desktop. The button should be where your screen properties are located.
