Ricoh aficio 2035 keeps telling me to add toner

If you just add toner and it just keep saying add toner. open sp mode.

Press: Clear modes>1-0-7>Clear/Stop> SP2 x x x- Drum > 214 -Developer Initialization>Exectute and wait.

This is an error code for the RFID which is the toner bottle chip on the the toner bottles. I would suggest you check the toner cartridges for any damaged or disconnected chips, have you changed to non ricoh toners as this can sometimes cause a problem. Check each bottle if you have any old empty bottles insert one of these into corresponding colour slot and you can then see which bottle is causing the error. Failing this the board will need to be changed. I have had errors on non ricoh bottles. you can also vac out the slot to clear spilt toner. hope this helps

Could be a lot of things. start with toner hopper is bottle turning is end cap in toner bottle being pull out when toner handle is lower is side door open and dose toner fall out when bottle is turning. then next is developer powder how many copies on it. might be time to replace powder. or could be gears broken on developer unit. I would say if you not mechanical incline call tech.

if machine sade add toner it's mean toner finished in the machine and add the new toner bottle if problem exist than clean the toner hopper

Toner supply is controlled with readings from TD sensor on the developing unit and the I.D sensor above the drum by default.

These are low cost parts and easy to change.
(The TD sensor on this model have been known to fluctuate back and forth by a fair margin so is a good place to start).

You could also try stripping down and cleaning out the toner hopper.
Check the four mylars are present and the grabber is opening wide enough to grab the toner bottle nozzle successfully.

Check the toner hopper exit slider is opening fully when the PCU is inserted.

I had one of these 'add toner' faults today and it was the toner hopper all clogged up inside.
The side bit where the toner drops down had hardened clumps of toner stuck around the side entrance mylar and the exit hole.

Check also the toner motor. I have seen these fail. Run simulation output check for toner motor. I would remove the toner supply unit and hold the motor when you run this simulation. Sometimes the motor turns but does not have enough torgue to turn the toner supply unit.

Clean the PCU unit components:OPC drum,cleaning blade,charge roller.
Clean in the developer unit the development roller,and the entrance seal plate.
Raise the toner bottle holder lever,push the lever to the side and then pull the toner bottle holder out and clean this unit to use a vacuum cleaner.
Clean the transfer belt cleaning blade and the rollers.

Four things to look for here.....

1. Did you remove the inner top of the toner bottle? The clear one. That will create a mess. Only remove the black cap.

2. The seal between the toner hopper and the top of the photoconductor unit has been damaged. Need to replace or fix this. You can see the seal around the hole in the pcu when you pull the toner hopper out.

3. The claws in the toner hopper that grab the top of the toner bottle are bound up or the release mechanism (green handle area) is messed up. Clean if you can or replace worn parts.

4. If the copies are getting light, then the plastic 'scoopers' inside of the toner hopper are damaged. You will need to disassemble the receptacle the toner bottle fits into and repair the 'scoopers'. If they are still there, just glue them back on.

Unfortunately the newer ricoh equipment may include a chip like the HP toner. This allows the printer to track the usage so the printer can "intelligently" determine how much toner remains in the bottle. The chip overides all other factors on the remaining toner. Hence, if the chip "thinks" that the toner bottle has little or no toner left, it will give you a false toner low message. Presently, you can only replace the toner with a new bottle.

the part numbers are different for each toner from ricoh, Lanier, Savin and Gestetner. From what I recall is the bottles are different, check the old bottle vs new. Also if the machine had run very low you may have to open and close the fron cover several times, this intiates a toner feed program.
